What is mmWave Wireless?

Widest spectrum - High capacity! Narrow beams - No Interference!

E-Band (70/8 GHz) Lightly licensed , 10GHz V-Band (60 GHz) Unlicensed, 14GHz

E-Band: <1° 5.8GHz: >10°

5G

mmWave

5G is here today and available to everyone – 60, 70/80GHz GWA - Mobile Operators have no incentive, and $$ dis-incentives to use licensed bands for fixed applications

  • $1.8/GB vs $0.05/GB revenue generation

Smart Cities - have a choice for their 5G networks – fixed or mobile

  • Massive price premium for using 5G NR mobile networks in fixed

applications

Introduction

  • The city owned a decent fiber footprint

but it did not cover the areas the cameras were needed

  • The network design needed to be

adaptable to expand in the future

  • Extra capacity was needed for additional

applications in the future such as public WiFi

  • 5GHz was considered but interference

was already substantial, and only increasing over time

  • 60GHz EtherHaul radios from Siklu were

deployed offering a full Gbps of capacity

  • 6 radios were co-located in a clock tower

with zero self interference, and none from the city at large

  • Phase 1 deployment supports 10 cameras
  • A car theft ring was apprehended and
  • verall crime has dropped since

deployment

  • Phase 2 in planning
  • Network is providing “high up time and

excellent quality”

The City of Cambridge located roughly 100km west of Toronto was seeing an increase in drugs and crime. Especially so in public areas, parking lots, and pedestrian walkways

slide-15
SLIDE 15

City of Vail, Colorado

  • Free Wi-Fi delivered on the same network as multifocal

HD surveillance cameras

  • Network connection to parking lots machines and

various smart city controls

City Center Wi-Fi Projects

  • City of Sheffield, UK
  • Public Wi-Fi project
  • 150 x Ruckus AP’s plus similar

number of Siklu EH600TX links being installed to deliver free Wi-Fi access
