“ A bold strategic plan and a successful early leadership gift phase have provided us with the confidence and conviction to reach the $27 million goal. In my last year as Head of School my personal goal is to leave STS with a spectacular new facility and to do so without incurring any

enthusiasm for completing this campaign over the next few months. Please join me in donating to the Inspiring Possibilities campaign early this fall.”

INSPIRING POSSIBILITIES

WHY ARE WE ASKING FOR DONATIONS?

Like all independent schools, STS has been built and sustained by generations of philanthropic

  • investments. None of the operating budget pays for

building expansions.

A STS EDUCATION IS A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN STUDENT, SCHOOL AND HOME Inspiring Possibilities is an ambitious philanthropic initiative to make the well-rounded STS experience even better. The $27 million Inspiring Possibilities campaign will invest donors’ contributions in:

  • Inspiring Facilities: $24 million
  • Inspiring Teachers: $1.5 million
  • Inspiring Students: $1.5 million

It is time to make our facilities even better to support teaching and learning at STS. To meet current and future needs of our students, construction priorities were selected to:

  • encourage experiential and engaging learning
  • facilitate group work, traditional presentations or quiet

study

  • enable faculty collaboration
  • leverage the country setting

6,000 square meters of new facilities include:

  • A new Elementary Wing – to welcome our youngest

learners into a fmexible learning environment to optimize best teaching practice.

  • Expanded Fine and Performing Arts spaces – to meet the

creative talents of students with facilities and technology conducive to creative expression.

  • A Heart of the School - NOW OPEN – to create a warm

welcome to our STS campus, expand the” foyer” for the theatre, and to improve the dining and reception experience.

  • Landscaping for Learning – enhance outdoor learning on
  • ur country campus in several theme-inspired landscapes.

Ground breaking was celebrated in June 2016 with the building scheduled to open this year.

A socio-economically diverse student body is rich in ideas and perspectives, enabling every student to grow and learn from their peers. Everyone benefjts when we open the doors to talent and motivation, rather than ability to pay. Financial awards, both merit scholarships and need based bursaries must keep pace with increasing demand. *This fjnancial goal was considered a fmoor through which we want to push.

INSPIRING STUDENTS:

$1.5 MILLION GOAL $1.8 MILLION RAISED*

INSPIRING TEACHERS:

We are committed to teaching excellence and will continue to invest in faculty development.” Dr. William Jones A priority is to attract, develop and retain exceptional professionals who will elevate teaching practice at STS and inspire excellence in the broader teaching community. Teaching excellence will be enhanced by:

  • Experts in Education Speaker Series
  • Action research
  • Faculty mentoring
  • Enhanced professional development
  • Academic-in-residence
  • Hosting educational conferences for parents

and professionals

YOUR FAMILY IS STS

Critical to the success of any independent school is engagement with parents and alumni. Student engagement, volunteer leadership and philanthropic support have contributed to the fabric of community that makes STS special and enduring. We aim to inspire your philanthropic support of Strathcona- Tweedsmuir School, both now and in the future. We hope to continue the discussion of how your family can both contribute to, and be recognized for, the important role family members play in realizing the vision we have for STS’ future. We welcome your gift toward:

  • the construction of wonderful learning spaces
  • an annually funded or endowed scholarship to welcome all

potential students of promise regardless of ability to pay full tuition

  • investments in teaching excellence to elevate teaching

practice We welcome further discussion to align with your family’s passion for academic excellence with our priorities. We share the same goal: to engage both students and faculty for success in our rapidly changing world.

ESTATE GIVING

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now” - Chinese proverb

Let us plant a seed with you..... Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School has been built and sustained by visionaries who believe in the benefjts of a well-rounded

  • education. Indeed, the founding of STS on our country campus

47 years ago was in part due to the signifjcant gift of 140 acres

  • f land (priceless) and a $250,000 bequest (a present day

equivalent of around $15 million!). Visionary donors can include a bequest to support the school’s long term sustainability. A conversation during the campaign will ensure that your future wishes are captured on record either at the school or the STS Foundation and that your leadership inspires others to make a planned gift. Please consider leaving STS a bequest within your estate planning to support future students and faculty.

Celebrating philanthropy within STS will inspire other families to make education at STS a philanthropic priority. Building a culture of philanthropy is perhaps one of the enduring legacies of this campaign at this time for STS, as donations are vital to realize our bold vision. When our new building opens in the fall of 2017, it will include a feature donor wall. Donor recognition will thank and celebrate our community of donors for everyone’s collective generosity. Where will your family’s contribution be celebrated on the wall? Leader: Adventurer: Trailblazer: Pathfjnder: Explorer: Discoverer: Annual Donors: $1 million + $250,000 - $999,999 $100,000 - $249,999 $25,000 - $99,999 $10,000 - $24,999 $5,000 - $9,999 up to $4999 Charitable gifts are more approachable than many donors believe. Success will be achieved when all members of our community stretch and make giving to STS a priority to help us reach our goal this fall.
