  7. 1/17/17 STUDENT OPINIONS/FOCUS GROUP “ Don’t butter coat it when we make a mistake” “Tell us what we did wrong so we can fix it, don’t’ just fix it for us” “More positive encouragement would have been nice, I felt like a machine” “I was shy when Pam watched me at first, and I am not shy now!” “Do you think they would hire me at Hampton Inn after this is done?” AREAS OF GROWTH FOR STAFF Develop and Encourage Students to use a Signature Have students sign a work contract! If a job doesn’t fit, don’t be afraid to switch it Increase pre-teaching on appropriate social behavior in the workplace as a pre-employment lesson Offer the dignity of risk…….they want to fix their mistakes Allow them to be independent, they will fly without support Use more positive encouragement and fade out to meet common workplace standards Increase video modeling…..videos work (i.e. safety video) IF WE DID IT AGAIN…… Stagger Start Times! Possibly add another location to meet interests When a job is carved, ensure it is enough work for a shift Offer shorter shifts for students who have never worked 7
