What is SEL?

  • Social and emotional learning

(SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. (CASEL)

aware of facial expressions, body language, and the manner they respond to each other. Observe who sits next to who, who is the leader, the follower. Their attitudes towards each other can offer a huge tell- tale or red flags regarding what’s going on with individuals within the circle

  • Observe our trauma responses –Fight, Flight or Free

and how they identify with it.

  • Acknowledge their names,

their voices, their thoughts and ask meaningful questions that reflect their feelings Affirmations, goals & dreams Educate & Empower

BREATHE

Breathe!!!

Sit comfortably or lie down. Place one hand on your stomach and one hand on your chest. Breathe in slowly through your nose. Feel your stomach expand as you inhale. If you are breathing from the stomach, the hand on your chest shouldn’t move. Focus on filling up your lower lungs with air. Slowly exhale, releasing all the air out through your mouth. Use your hand to feel your stomach fall as you exhale. Practice breathing four to six breaths per minute Repeat this up to 10 times.
