Project Lead The Way (PLTW)

Middle school is a time of exploration, a time when students are figuring out what they’re passionate about today and how that relates to who they’ll become tomorrow. During this transitional time, PLTW Gateway’s five units empower students to lead their own discovery. The hands-on program boosts classroom engagement and excitement, drives collaboration, and inspires “aha! moments” and deep

  • comprehension. And as students engage in PLTW’s activities in computer science, engineering, and biomedical

science, they see a range of paths and possibilities they can look forward to in high school and beyond.

PLTW classes offered at Tappan are:

Design & Modeling - 6th Grade (9 week class) Automation & Robotics - 7th Grade (9 week class) Computer Science for Innovators and Makers - 7th Grade (9 week class) Medical Detectives - 7th Grade (9 week class) Energy & the Environment (Semester class)

slide-35
SLIDE 35

Visual Arts

Exploratory Arts, for 6th graders, is a 9 week course that is broken into 3 main units: drawing, ceramics, and painting. These units preview individual, medium specific, 9 week classes that can be chosen as electives at the 7th and 8th grade levels.

slide-36
SLIDE 36

Realistic, abstract and non-objective styles are all included. The majority of class time is spent in the artistic process, but aesthetics, art history and the essentials of critique are also covered.

In-District Transfer/Schools of Choice

The Application Window for 2018-19 In-District Transfers closes March 23rd,

  • 2018. In-District Transfer, is dependent upon space available, and is a

possible option for students residing within the Ann Arbor Public Schools attendance boundaries. The School of Choice application window has not been decided at this time. If you currently do not reside in the AAPS attendance boundaries but reside in Washtenaw, Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Oakland, or Wayne County you would be considered School of Choice. Under the School of Choice and In-District Transfer policy, transportation to and from school is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
