How to choose?

Do Don’t

Have a balance between coursework and examination only subjects. Base it on who teaches you right now. Have an interest in the subject. Choose the subject just because your friends are doing it. Talk to the teachers and careers advisors. Choose a subject without fully investigating it. Choose subjects which will allow you to excel.

Triple (separate) science option

  • It is not on the option form. You will need to send in the reply slip

to be considered for Triple science.

  • All students who apply to be considered for Triple science will

meet a senior member of staff to discuss the option.

slide-10
SLIDE 10

Guidance – Triple science

  • Triple science will give you three separate GCSE qualifications and

should be considered if:

  • You have a love of science.
  • You see yourself in some STEM based career in the future.
  • Triple science will reduce your options.
  • Combined science (two GCSEs) will be followed if you do not choose

triple science.

  • Both routes will still allow you to study A levels in any of the

sciences as long as you meet the school entry requirements.

Making your choices

Broad Balanced

Choose subjects from a range of areas. Exams vs coursework. Examples Look at the assessment requirements Broad:

  • French
  • History
  • Drama
  • Graphics

Not broad:

  • Spanish
  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Performing arts
  • Exam at the end of the two years.
  • Coursework over the two years.

Don’t have high levels of coursework in all of your options.

Broad and Balanced

Option choices

Will all subjects run?

  • No subject is guaranteed to run. For example, if we don’t have

enough students opting for the subject it may not happen. Can I change my options once I have made them?

  • Think long and hard about your choices. Once they are made, the

likelihood of you being able to change them is very low.

Oversubscribed Courses

Where courses are oversubscribed we will apply a selection criteria which will include:

  • ATL Grades on progress reports (in all subjects not just the one related

to a particular course).

  • Attendance & Punctuality.
  • Behaviour.
