First off – CHOOSE A TOPIC!
Choose a disease or disorder that is interesting to you. It could be something you have a personal experience with or something you want to learn more about. Your presentation should take 5-7 minutes. It should be QUALITY. Treat it as if you are teaching the class a lesson because you will be! That means you need to become an expert on your topic. You need to have some type of visual presentation. Powerpoint works great but there are other options if you want. Be sure to include pictures and other elements to engage the audience. Please keep track of your sources and include them on your last slide. You must use a minimum of 3! I’ll let you know 1 week in advance of the exact day of your presentation.
Here is how you will be graded
You are responsible for:
- Content
- An engaging presentation
- Being prepared
Here’s what to do for “Content”
There are other things you can put in your presentation that can take it from “ok” to “amazing!”
Here are some ideas:
Personal stories or experiences Give a good explanation of causes…convince me that you know exactly how the disease/disorder works Is it common? How many people have the condition? Are there permanent effects or can you get 100% well? How successful are the treatments? Is
- ne treatment better that another?
Can this disease/disorder be prevented?
Your main task is to
- 1. Describe the causes of
the disease or disorder
- 2. Describe the signs and
symptoms that a person would experience if they had the disease or disorder
- 3. Describe the types of
treatments available for the disease or disorder
Here’s what to do for “Audience Engagement”
You MUST interact with the audience. How can you do that?
Pictures and other visuals Asking lots of great questions Short video clips Designing an activity for your students to do Play a game Lots of other ideas
Here’s what to do for “Preparedness”
When you present, you should look and act professional Stand up, use a clear voice Try to avoid reading the slides word for word Be ready to go on the day you are assigned
