Communication

TennisLink and www.centralindiana.usta.com/USTA Leagues (CITA) are your NEW best friends for you and your players! Visit them often.

Establish your team goals: equal matches for all players, just have fun, plan on winning flight and advance to championships, etc.

Forward emails to your co-captain and players from your District or Local League Coordinator when

  • appropriate. Keep them informed!

Obtain players’ email addresses and phone numbers and prepare a team roster so everyone has each

  • ther’s contact information. Give players the team number, along with division/level/flight/sub-flight

name.

Make sure you have enough players necessary to field a complete team for each match and that all players meet the eligibility requirements and are registered on your team in TennisLink.

Communicate the team schedule and obtain availability from all players for each match.

Send out match location and address, approximate travel time to the location, carpool meeting location, match time and player lineup at least 1 week prior to match date. Have players confirm and follow-up.

Confirm home and away matches on the schedule. Contact opposing team captain to confirm date, location, and time of match.

Have players arrive 15-30 minutes prior to scheduled match time and take into consideration any construction, traffic, restroom breaks, stretching, etc. Assume NO restrooms will be available at the tennis location.

Have fun while competing and enjoy the league experience through USTA!

Get to know teammates and plan to eat lunch or dinner together after the match if possible – camaraderie is important for team building!

If you have a question or concerns feel free to call Holly or Kimberly at the CITA League office at 317-844- 6105 or leagues@centralindianatennis.com. After hours EMERGENCY league cell phone is 317-503-7177.

Responsibilities

Be knowledgeable of current rules and regulations

2011 USTA League Regulations

2011 USTA/Midwest Section League Regulations – A supplement to the 2011 USTA League Regulations

Greater Indianapolis Local League Rules

The Coman tie-break procedure

The Code – Players’ guide for Matches when Officials are not Present

The Rules of Tennis – 2011 Friend at Court (CITA Website and for sale)

You will receive all rules in your captain’s bag. Please keep a copy in your bag to have available on court at all times.

If captain or co-captain is not able to attend the match, you must assign a temporary captain. Prior to match, provide them opponents contact information, tennis balls if “Home” team, scorecard and line-up.

Always print a blank scorecard and bring it and a pen with you to the match. Don’t forget the tennis balls if you are the acting “Home” captain. You can fill in your roster prior to or when you get to the match

  • location. Always make sure the opposing captain and you agree on the same scores for each court and sign

each other’s scorecards before leaving the courts.

“Home” captain responsibilities include keeping track of time. Each match is a total of 2 hours; a 15 minute warm-up with 1 hour and 45 minute match time. Refer to the rules for what to do if you have to call “time.”

If you have an outdoor match at a school, there will probably not be net post scorecards on the courts. Consider bringing chalk or scratch paper and pens so your teammates can record their scores.

No alcohol or tobacco is permitted on school or university property.

Use of electronic devices on court is a violation of the code under all governing bodies of tennis.

Record or confirm scores promptly (within 48 hours) in TennisLink.

Dear Captains: I wish I could be there to see the launch of the summer season and see a lot of familiar faces. We have been working hard to improve our leagues and a lot of volunteer contribution is making that happen from the board of directors, the league committee and our advisory panel, to individual volunteers. The office, and Holly in particular , have taken more steps to improve leagues in the last 6 months than we have seen in years. Thank you Holly. Mostly I want to thank the captains who are the foundation of our organization and “make league play happen” regardless of the challenges of weather , people not showing up, rule conflicts, and facility issues. Thank you captains for being the bedrock of our organization. We look forward to hearing from you all this summer. Rich Correll, League Chair 5/7/2011

2010 first successful season with 90 teams and 1,111 players.

2011 CD on-line registration begins in June.

Objective - To create new league play in areas where there may be players at different NTRP levels that would like to play doubles together in a team competition format.

Required format for progression is combined NTRP levels by gender, for Adults at 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, and 9.5 (3 doubles courts).

Players must be USTA members with an NTRP rating or computer self-rating, and at least 18 years of age.

Combo Doubles Leagues will not be a part of generating a player’s year-end rating for Adults.

Combo Doubles play only advances to Midwest Section and that is it.

Seniors and Mixed Combo Doubles can play and form teams, however there is no progression to championship play for Seniors and Mixed Combo Doubles.

Read the Schedule Carefully - Locations, Dates, Times, Home or Away

SCHEDULES/TECHNOLOGY:

We appreciate the fact that you appreciate our efforts in making the schedules!

Number of hours it takes to schedule? Endless and continuous…..

Court availability on the date you play at your facility and the number of teams in a Division/Level/Flight drives the scheduling process.

The schedules are not perfect. We make every effort to continue to improve the scheduling process in the CITA office and at the national USTA level via TennisLink.

With every season that I schedule, I learn more and improve the process with pre-planning, technology, and learning the new upgrades of TennisLink along with yourselves!

LOCATION/TRAVEL:

Updated summer facility addresses will be posted on the web next week.

When traveling to your match location, plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early.

Allow additional time for heavy traffic and construction.

Assume tennis locations DO NOT have restrooms – STOP prior to arriving at your destination.

No alcohol or tobacco is permitted on school or university property.

Adopted by the League Committee - Greater Indianapolis

2/18/2010

All Matches Must Be Played As Scheduled

It is expected that teams make all efforts to play their matches as published in the

  • riginal league schedule. Any request by one captain to another to reschedule is just

that – a request.

In the event of a delay or postponement, the scheduled match must be completed or played before the end of the local league season. The home captain must contact the local league coordinator within 48 hours of the postponed match and notify the coordinator in order to prevent a forfeit being recorded.

Matches must be played at the originally-scheduled site unless the host facility determines that it cannot accommodate the rescheduling. A change of venue will only be approved if the host facility informs CITA of its approval of the change. Every attempt must be made to honor the commitment made by and to the host facility. Without the cooperation of facilities our league won’t operate efficiently and effectively.

In the case of summer matches moved due to rain, the home captain must inform the facility of a venue change within 24 hours if an alternate indoor site is available on the same day. Rescheduling to a different date must be attempted at the original site, following the above procedure.

slide-22

2011 USTA Leagues - Greater Indianapolis Local Rules

1.00 GENERAL 1.04D(4) Local League Season

  • 14. Rained-Out Matches
  • a. Both captains shall agree as to whether existing weather conditions are suitable for play.
  • b. If play has not begun:
  • 1. The home team captain shall contact the visiting captain to advise him/her of weather conditions.
  • 2. If the visiting captain has not been otherwise notified by the home team Captain, the former shall arrive

at the designated site with his/her team and be prepared to play the match.

  • 3. If both captains agree that weather conditions do not permit the match to be played, the match must be

re-scheduled. Both captains must agree on the new match time and place. Rescheduled matches shall be played at the original site whenever possible. However, if an alternate location is available on the scheduled date, teams are encouraged to play at the alternate location as a first option.

  • c. If play has begun:
  • 1. All completed matches shall stand as played.
  • 2. Matches in progress shall be stopped, the current score recorded (write down)
  • 3. Matches will resume at the point when the delay occurred.

Court fees for the summer league season were included in the $45.01 player registration fee when you registered.
