Planning Approach (for range of provision, including health):

  • Apply the Determinants of health and well-being and Health

Impact Assessment (HIA) to proposals in the Local Plan reviews and major Planning Applications.

  • Work with Infrastructure providers such as CCG to update the

Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP) on Infrastructure needed to support housing growth in the borough.

  • The IDP includes key health and wellbeing measures and

infrastructure components which are needed to meet the growth

  • bjectives set out in the Local Plan. It contains the background

to key issues and illustration of infrastructure type, timing and potential costs of infrastructure needed to support the growth.

  • Local Plan is currently subject to a review process, and the IDP

is ‘living document’. Both provide opportunity for health providers/practitioners to engage in the processes.

Public Health England ‘Some of the UK’s most pressing health challenges such as obesity, mental health issues, chronic diseases …. can all be influenced by the quality of our built and natural environment; the considerate design of spaces and places and access to community and health services can help to promote good health and in some cases even prevent poor health’
