The Council will secure at least 3,000 new council and housing association
homes for rent.
The Council will secure at least 2,000 new shared ownership housing association
homes.
We will maximise the provision of council and housing association owned
homes for rent when developing council-owned land.
Secure more council owned homes for rent by investing in the purchase of
private sector properties bulk off plan.
There are currently 389 Council homes with planning consent or started on
- site. A further 142 units currently have funding and will complete by 2022.
The Council will seek additional funding from the GLA in September 2018
to increase the number of units delivered in the Council’s house building programme.

Planning Approach (for range of provision, including health):
- Apply the Determinants of health and well-being and Health
Impact Assessment (HIA) to proposals in the Local Plan reviews and major Planning Applications.
- Work with Infrastructure providers such as CCG to update the
Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP) on Infrastructure needed to support housing growth in the borough.
- The IDP includes key health and wellbeing measures and
infrastructure components which are needed to meet the growth
- bjectives set out in the Local Plan. It contains the background
to key issues and illustration of infrastructure type, timing and potential costs of infrastructure needed to support the growth.
- Local Plan is currently subject to a review process, and the IDP
is ‘living document’. Both provide opportunity for health providers/practitioners to engage in the processes.
Public Health England ‘Some of the UK’s most pressing health challenges such as obesity, mental health issues, chronic diseases …. can all be influenced by the quality of our built and natural environment; the considerate design of spaces and places and access to community and health services can help to promote good health and in some cases even prevent poor health’
