What young people say about The Mix?

“I started using The Mix chat to seek mental health support, as I feel unable to confide in those around

  • me. I like the idea of being with others who understand my mental health. Chat makes me feel like I’m not

alone.” Chat User “I love the supportive environment and talking to people who understand and getting great advice which I try to implement.” Board User “Great to talk to someone quickly and easily over the web chat. Sometimes it can be scary to make a phone call and upsetting, this really helped.” Helpline User “I have been experiencing severe anxiety symptoms for a very long time and was recently diagnosed with GAD, the video in particular has helped me gain greater insight in handling negative feelings, doubts and personal insecurities in my otherwise incredible relationship.” Website User

House of Commons Women & Equalities Committee - Mental Health of Men and Boys Inquiry

  • Monday 18th March
  • Thanks to St Michael & All Angels Steel Orchestra, Young Ealing Foundation,

and Khulisa

  • Read our full response here: https://londonyouth.org/our-response-parliaments-

mental-health-of-men-and-boys-inquiry/

  • Key messages:
  • Our members have serious concerns about the mental health and wellbeing support available to young

people in London, particularly through Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

  • Youth work is an effective way of broadening access to mental health support. Despite the

Government’s welcome increased focus on young people’s mental health, youth and community

  • rganisations have not seen the same support as education-based mental health support.
  • Programmes that young people enjoy, such as sports or cultural opportunities, are an incredibly

effective means of outreach for and delivery of mental health support.

  • The mental health of young men and boys in London is adversely affected by the cost of living, concern

about safety and violence, and access to youth and mental health services.
