Hands-on

We’re going to add some station metadata, create some profiles, and see if we can see data coming in to our system. Perform the following instructions on your virtual machine. When you’re using a web browser, it should be the one on your virtual machine.

Metadata

  • Station metadata is the core of

SeisComP3’s configuration

  • We’ll be using some prepared metadata

acquired from IRIS in Dataless SEED format, which has been converted to StationXML format and then edited to only include the stations we care about.

USB Key For Metadata

  • Downloading metadata with Firefox is an

easy way to get files onto your Virtual Machine, or to your SeisComP3 system.

  • For class, though, you’ll be learning more

about VirtualBox than you wanted to know!

  • We’re going to set up your Desktop as a

shared drive, and you’ll copy new metadata for you onto your Desktop from memory keys

slide-8
SLIDE 8

Copy USB files to Desktop

Copy the files only to your Desktop, because that’s what we’ll share with Virtualbox in a moment.

slide-9
SLIDE 9

9

Share Desktop to Virtualbox

Go to Devices -> Shared Folders -> Shared Folder Settings…

Start scconfig

  • Type ‘scconfig &’

followed by the ‘enter’ key (without the ‘ ’ )

NOTE: A typical way to do this is to cd to seiscomp3/bin and type ./seiscomp exec

did seiscomp print env, and then put those environment variables into our ~/.bash_profile to make it easier for us.
