slide-10
SLIDE 10

You’ve tried to “be everywhere” but didn’t get results from anywhere except iTunes

slide-11
SLIDE 11

About Hani

  • I live in Toronto, Canada, father of 2 girls,

and love taking ninja class with my wife and daugthers!

  • My 9 year old has already created and

edited her first YouTube video, recorded a few (unreleased) podcasts, and even has her own WordPress blog

  • In the past 5 years, I’ve created 6 different

automation tools for content creators with 5000+ users

slide-13
SLIDE 13

So Why Do We Need To Repurpose Our Podcasts?

slide-14
SLIDE 14

Podcasting is amazing!

  • It provides you one of the best opportunities to connect with

your audience in the most personal way possible, but…

  • There are still a lot of people who don’t listen to podcasts the

traditional way who would still love your show

  • Putting your show in other places where people hang out

who wouldn’t normally listen to podcasts means you get the most amount of reach (and creates the perception of “being everywhere”)

slide-15
SLIDE 15

Here Are The 3 Places Your Podcast Must Be To Maximize Your Reach

slide-16
SLIDE 16

The 3 Places

Your website

slide-17
SLIDE 17
slide-18
SLIDE 18

Why YouTube?

  • YouTube is the number 2 search engine in the world (over 3

billion searches per month)

  • Almost 5 billion videos are watched on YouTube every single

day

  • YouTube gets over 30 million visitors per day
slide-19
SLIDE 19

Why YouTube?

(More Reasons)

  • The average mobile viewing session lasts more than 40

minutes!!!!!!!

  • The total number of hours of video watched on YouTube

each month — 3.25 billion

slide-20
SLIDE 20

The interesting thing about YouTube viewers is that they don’t always *watch*

Many YouTube viewers will click play and then go on with whatever they’re doing — they’re happy to just listen, if it’s interesting

slide-21
SLIDE 21

But that doesn’t mean you should ignore the visuals…
 It is YouTube after all

slide-22
SLIDE 22

Ok, Here’s What To Do…

slide-23
SLIDE 23

Convert the audio into a full length moving/dynamic video (not just a static image with audio) *Click here to see a sample*

slide-24
SLIDE 24

Include a call-to-action and link within the first two lines of your YouTube description (that way they’re visible without the viewer having to click the “show more” button on YouTube) Include the http:// so the link will be clickable

slide-25
SLIDE 25

Do your keyword research to find highly searched / low competition keywords

  • Use Google Adwords Keyword Planner (free)
  • Choose one main keyword and up to 9 other related

keywords

  • Make sure your title includes your main keyword (ideally

near the beginning of the title)

  • If you can include a related keyword in the title, that’s a

bonus

  • Include your primary and related keywords in your

description (but don’t overdo it)

  • Add your keywords as YouTube tags when uploading your

video

slide-26
SLIDE 26

Upload your transcript to YouTube

(you can use a services like rev.com, temi.com, or otter.ai to get your podcast transcribed)

slide-27
SLIDE 27

Add all episodes into a single playlist and order the playlist from oldest to newest so listeners can listen in order

(this will get you multiple views, as opposed to a single video view)

slide-28
SLIDE 28

Monitor your YouTube stats to see how many views each episode gets and how long they’re watching for

(this will tell you what content your audience is most interested in… and these analytics are better than the ones in iTunes)

slide-29
SLIDE 29

To actually get your podcast on YouTube, you have a few options

slide-30
SLIDE 30

Option 1: Produce It Yourself

  • You’ll need some decent video editing software
  • You’ll have to put together your audio with a video on

that software — might require expensive plugins

  • Takes a lot of time (do you have a lot of spare time???)
slide-31
SLIDE 31

Option 2: Hire Someone

  • Expensive! Video editors are incredible, but they charge

what they’re worth

  • They’ll give you the video, and you’ll still have to deal

with uploading it to YouTube

slide-32
SLIDE 32

Option 3: Use repurpose.io

  • Very inexpensive (remember the webinar bonus?)
  • Super easy to use
  • Doesn’t require any video editing experience
  • Posts to YouTube for you (including your already

published episodes)

Let’s Check It Out

slide-33
SLIDE 33

Repurpose.io saves my team hours each week. It automatically creates beautiful videos for each EOFire episode and publishes them to YouTube and Facebook!

  • Joe Pardo, superjoepardo.com

Moving everything [podcast] to Youtube is gonna be game

  • changing. Just in the last couple days I've gotten over a

hundred views and in the last 60 minutes... 30 views!!!

slide-35
SLIDE 35
slide-36
SLIDE 36

Why Facebook?

  • Facebook LOVES videos (they’re trying to compete with

Google and YouTube)

  • Native videos on Facebook have 10 times higher reach

compared to YouTube links

  • Facebook videos have increased 360% across everyone’s

news feeds

  • 8 billion daily views for Facebook Video = 100% growth in 6

months

  • 100 million hours of Facebook videos are watched every day
slide-37
SLIDE 37

Facebook users are passionate!

slide-38
SLIDE 38

Know Your Audience

  • 60% of podcast listeners frequent social media platforms

several times a day (higher than the national average)

  • While on Facebook, most people don’t want to click links

that take them away from Facebook (they’re there to be entertained, watch videos, look at pics, connect with family and friends)

  • By having video content natively uploaded to Facebook,

people can start listening right away without leaving Facebook — plus they can continue watching while they scroll their newsfeed (this is a new feature, but it’s awesome!)

slide-39
SLIDE 39

Ok, Here’s What To Do…

slide-40
SLIDE 40

Convert the audio into a full length moving/dynamic video (not just a static image with audio)

This can be the same video you used for YouTube

slide-41
SLIDE 41

Upload the video to your Facebook page to get video analytics like views, average time watched, etc.

(make sure you change the date to reflect when the episode was published on iTunes)

slide-42
SLIDE 42

Share the post from your Page to your personal profile for even more reach

(all views will be tracked as part of the original video)

slide-43
SLIDE 43

Tag guests in the comments so they get notified

They’re more likely to share that way, getting you extra reach

slide-44
SLIDE 44

85% of Facebook Videos are viewed without sound, so having a dynamic video

(especially an animated waveform)

will encourage users to turn on sound to listen

slide-45
SLIDE 45

Upload a transcript to Facebook so it appears as a closed-caption on top of the video — that will help with people who don't turn the sound on

slide-46
SLIDE 46

Include a call to action and link in your Facebook Post description — send people to the notes page of that episode or to a free giveaway landing page so they can join your email list

slide-47
SLIDE 47

Here’s how to do to publish to Facebook using repurpose.io

slide-48
SLIDE 48

I'm in love! Such a great tool. I use it to publish my Podcast to both YouTube and Facebook. It ROCKS!

  • Bo Kauffmann, winnipeghomefinder.com

I posted a recent podcast episode on my facebook page (which has 2100 followers). WITHOUT boosting it or promoting it, it has so far reached 1700 people, and viewed by over 300

slide-50
SLIDE 50

Your website

slide-51
SLIDE 51

But wait, isn’t this

  • bvious?

You’d be surprised how many people don’t have a website for their podcast!

slide-52
SLIDE 52

Why Should This Go On Your Website?

  • SEO, SEO, SEO
  • It’s a one click play for non-technical users who don’t know

what a podcast is (or have never used iTunes, Stitcher, or Google Play)

  • It’s a content channel for your brand — why wouldn’t you want

it included on your site?

  • You can’t collect email addresses on Facebook or YouTube —

so having it on your site allows you to grow your email list

  • Some people prefer to read blogs (text content) — so providing

a transcript makes this even more powerful

slide-53
SLIDE 53

Ok, Here’s What To Do…

slide-54
SLIDE 54

Make it super easy to listen by having the player near the top of the page with a clear PLAY button

slide-55
SLIDE 55

Make sure your player is mobile friendly (2/3 of podcasts are listened to on a mobile phone or tablet)

slide-56
SLIDE 56

Make it easy for them to subscribe to your podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play by adding buttons close to the player (where their focus is)

slide-57
SLIDE 57

Include an opt-in box close to the player so you can engage with them further and send them emails about new episodes, products, or services you’re offering

slide-58
SLIDE 58

Give them a reason to visit your show notes page

  • Benefit 1: Key takeaways with timestamps. Most listeners are

coming back to your site to re-listen to an episode. By adding the key points with clickable timestamps on the show notes page, they’re more likely to show up (and opt-in)

  • Benefit 2: Add full transcripts (or a detailed summary with links

to resources) — this also helps with SEO

slide-59
SLIDE 59

Optimize your post for SEO (Yoast SEO plugin helps if you’re using WordPress)
