  1. Term 1, Week 3 Friday 21 st February to Sunday 23 rd February 2020 Belmont City College – 106 Fisher St, Belmont WA 6104 Greg McMurdo Memorial Conducting Clinic 2020 ‘Conductor’s Tool Kit: Magic Wand or Allen Key?’

  2. Clinician: Associate Professor Peter Morris (QLD) Associate Professor Peter Morris is Acting Deputy Director (Learning & Teaching) and Head of Ensembles at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in Brisbane. He is also responsible for the orchestral conducting program with over 50 conducting students from undergraduate to postgraduate and doctoral candidates. He regularly conducts the Conservatorium Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, and Musical Theatre pit orchestras in addition to other interesting and collaborative ensemble projects that arise.

  3. GMMCC 2020 - Focus The weekend will include: • Keynote address by Peter Morris followed by conference dinner • Masterclasses with guest ensembles – W.A. Wind Symphony and Leeming Concert Band Conceptual foci will include, but not limited to: • Challenge the notion of the modern 'school concert' and explore creative opportunities for conductors to use at all levels • Conducting technique and musical leadership to ensure we're making MUSIC at all levels • Strategies to enhance student enjoyment, engagement and retention • Strategies to enhance parent engagement and school administration support

  4. GMMCC 2020 - Conducting • Applicants who wish to conduct in the masterclasses on the Saturday &/or Sunday will be asked to prepare a given score of concert band or string orchestra repertoire which will be available for study in advance. • There will be various levels of difficulty of repertoire available, suitable for: • Novice-beginner groups (Grades 0.5–1.5) and • Intermediate-advanced groups (Grades 2–3+). • Conducting places in each of the masterclasses are limited and priority, as well as the greatest repertoire selection, will be given to early applications. • Please bring your instrument to participate in sessions.

Wind Symphony 10:30-10:45am Morning Tea Break 10:45-12:30pm Session 1.2 – Upper Band (A & B division) W.A. Wind Symphony 12:30-1:00pm Lunch Break 1:00-3:00pm Session 2.1 – String Orchestra (Premier, A, B & C division) 3:00-3:15pm Afternoon Tea Break 3:15-5:00pm Session 2.2 – String Orchestra (Premier, A, B & C division)
