  • WS/FCS began using a 10-point grading scale for all

students in 2015-16.

Course Weights

  • Courses are offered at the regular, honors, seminar,

Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) levels

  • Course weights for all students have changed as the

state implemented a new system.

  • Honors—receives .5 additional quality point (previously 1)
  • AP/IB—receives 1 additional quality point (previously 2)
  • Dual enrollment/College courses receive 1 additional

quality point (no change)

Student Schedules

  • All high schools use a modified block schedule that

consists of four periods a day.

  • All classes are primarily 90 minutes.
  • Some classes are A/B day classes that last all year while
  • thers are block classes that last one semester.
  • During the registration period, students request
  • courses. Student schedules are finalized during the

summer and made available at Open House.

  • Assignment Principles are applied for English, math,

science, and social studies courses

  • Based on most recent End of Grade, End of Course

exam scores

  • For rising 9th graders, most recent exam scores are 7th

grade EOG scores

student registration cards

  • Assignment in honors courses is Levels 4 and 5

Arts Education

  • Students may select from a range of courses in this

area including Band, Chorus, Dance, Orchestra, Theater Arts, and Visual Arts.

  • Levels are beginning, intermediate, proficient, and

advanced

  • Students may receive honors credit up to four times

per Arts area (e.g. proficient and advanced)

  • Band 2 Int. 2 or 3 years of middle school Band
  • Orchestra 2 Int. 2 or 3 years of middle school

Orchestra

  • Chorus 2 Int. 2 or 3 years of middle school Chorus
  • There are beginner’s sections of each music

course for those who have some musical background but did not have at least 2 years of school instruction = Band 1, Chorus 1, Orches. 1

Second or Foreign Language

  • Students seeking to satisfy college admissions

requirements must complete two units of a second language.

  • Second Language offerings include, Chinese and

Japanese (at the Career Center), French, Latin, Spanish, and Spanish for Native Speakers

  • Students may continue in the second language

sequence through graduation

  • Students who have three years of foreign language and

receive HS credit for the first language course exp. Spanish 1, French 1, may register for the second level course

  • Students interested in developing leadership skills may

consider taking JROTC courses.

  • JROTC 1 – can meet the graduation requirement for PE

2 and Life Skills

  • Students who enroll in JROTC 1 as an elective should

choose PE 1 and Health on their registration card (not Life Skills)
