TIME MANAGEMENT AND GRADING

Ò Utilize your planning period! Ò Grading everything at once can be overwhelming,

chunking the work you have to grade makes the time go by faster.

Ò Set a goal for when you want to return assignments

back to students that is considerate of the student but also feasible within your schedule.

BEST PRACTICES FOR GRADING AND TIME MANAGEMENT

Ò

Do NOT wait until the end of the quarter to grade all of your assignments.

Ò

Have grading parties with colleagues…and bring snacks.

Ò

Use an answer key/rubric for everything.

Ò

Prioritize the most important assignments. (Grading a project is much more important than grading an extension activity worksheet.)

Ò

When giving quick Multiple Choice question assignments, utilize Trade and Grade!

Ò

Grade a subset of each assignment

DOCUMENTATION

Ò Be sure to document and record students who are

consistently scoring low or not completing assignments.

Ò If, by the end of the grading period, that student is

supposed to receive a D or an F, you will need documentation of that students lack of completed work, evidence of parental contact, and evidence of interventions on your behalf to prevent the student from failing.
