global citizenship education

What is Global Citizenship Education?

Global Citizenship Education (GCED) seeks to provide young citizens with the ability to face and solve global problems, and to contribute proactively to a more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, and safe world.

Competencies of Global Citizenship Education?

Basic competencies for GCED should include: 1) Knowledge and awareness of specific global issues and trends, knowledge and respect of universal values such as peace, human rights, democracy, justice, non-discrimination, diversity and tolerance; 2) Cognitive skills for critical and creative thinking, problem solving and decision-making; 3) Non-cognitive skills such as empathy, openness to others’ experiences and approaches, interpersonal skills, the capacity to network and interact with persons of different origins and backgrounds; 4) Behavioral capacity to adopt and participate in proactive actions
