Fostering social and emotional development in middle schoolers is incredibly important.

Social & Emotional Development

Research shows that those with higher social-emotional skills have better attention skills and fewer learning problems, and are generally more successful in academic and workplace settings. Like any math or English skills, these skills can be taught and grow over time.

Computer Science for Innovators and Makers - Grade 7

  • Students will discover computer science concepts and skills by creating

personally relevant, tangible, and shareable projects.

  • Students will learn about programming for the physical world by blending

hardware design and software development.

  • Students will design and develop a physical computing device, interactive art

installation, or wearable, and plan and develop code for microcontrollers that bring their physical designs to life.

  • Physical computing projects will promote student awareness of interactive

systems, including Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and broaden their understanding of abstract computer science concepts through meaningful and authentic applications.

Discipline

Our responsibility is to provide and support a safe and respectful learning environment for all members of the GMHS Learning Community. Effective discipline starts with the lowest level of conflict resolution and progresses to more formal discipline if lower level approaches do not address the issue. *Please refer to the GMS Student Handbook for a comprehensive outline of the rules and consequences.

Technology 1:1 iPad Initiative

All GMHS students will participate in the 1:1 iPad initiative. ❏ Option 1 ❏ Lease a 128GB iPad with a Logitech Rugged Book keyboard/case and 3 years of AppleCare protection through the school’s lease program. Several payment

  • ptions available including 1 time pay and monthly

payment plan (approx $18/month). ❏ School responsible for maintenance and upkeep of device. ❏ All school required apps (paid and free) will be preloaded at pickup. ❏ GMHS self-service (GMHS app store) access for additional apps throughout the year. ❏ Teachers and Technology staff will be able to troubleshoot throughout the day.
