A conservation plan is a tool that helps farmers protect and enhance the natural resources that support productive and profitable farming

  • perations.

Conservation plans are flexible, working blueprints. They can be adapted or revised to meet evolving land management goals or address the changing needs of a farm.

Program Overview

slide-24
SLIDE 24

O‘ahu RC&D assisted farmers located in Waiahole and Kaalaea to develop conservation plans and implement practices that improve water quality by reducing total nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment.

slide-25
SLIDE 25
slide-26
SLIDE 26

Waiahole Project Accomplishments:

  • 7 total conservation plans approved
  • 47 individual farmers were reached
  • 64 tons of sediment/year reduced
  • 64 lbs of Phosphorus/year reduced
  • 149 lbs of Nitrogen/year reduced

Farmers receive cost-share assistance (up to 70%) to install conservation practices that address watershed health. Farmers will receive assistance to develop a conservation plan for their property. Projects must be completed by May 2018.
