FY 19 Goals

Goal #1 – Continue to Grow our Asset Base Objective #1: Increase the assets managed by EBCF by ~5% to approximately $474M.  In order to grow our asset from about $450M in FY 18 to $470M in FY 19, EBCF seeks to secure:

  • $80M in new gifts, comprised of:
  • $30M in individual gifts,
  • at least $50M in gifts from Kaiser, and
  • $1M in unrestricted gifts.

 These ambitious goals are premised on the development team:

  • Prioritizing time and resources with larger opportunities, larger gifts (gifts >$100K),
  • Engaging donors aligned with EBCF’s new strategic direction, A Just East Bay

FY 19 Goals

That Unrestricted Goal…  We’ve created a gift range chart for raising $1M, comparing gifts we received this year to what we would need to raise in FY 19. Based on this analysis and that of our pipeline, we believe we can meet our goal.  We will be relying and asking the Board to assist more this year (making/supporting asks, introductions, and personal gifts).

FY 19 Goals

Objective #2 - Deepen Donor Engagement and Learning Aligned with A Just East Bay  Over the course of FY 19, we will roll out an initial set of strategies to become a catalytic home of learning for individuals and institutions in the East Bay.  We will target donors who:

  • Are aligned with our new mission, vision, and values, and/or
  • Want to learn on a deeper level about the structural and systemic causes of

inequity in our region, and

  • Want to take action in new ways – both with their financial resources, but also
  • ther assets (e.g. their time, voice, civic participation).

 A rich, potentially transformative, learning experience for our donors will result in greater investments with and in EBCF.  This donor learning arc will be developed over summer 2018.

  • We will work to plan a series of events and experiences aligned with both

EBCF’s 90th Anniversary, but also these long term donor learning goals.

FY 19 Goals

Objective #3 – Continue to Strengthen PALC  In FY 18 we re-launched previously dormant PALC  Revamped format of events, communication, to infuse greater content on the Foundation’s community impact, new programmatic focus.  Significant increase in 1:1 engagement with professional members in the region, and EBCF presence at key industry events.  Results:

  • Increase in communication from advisors, seeking information on EBCF, wishing to

engage with us, and ultimately referring potential clients to us.

  • Since July 2017, ~ 50% of the members of our PALC have made a referral.
  • In the prior year, less than 10% of the group made any referral.

 In FY 19, we will continue to improve our model for engaging professional advisors to build a stronger pipeline of leads and potential clients.

FY 19 Goals

Objective #4 – Strengthen Donor Segmentation to Prioritize Resources  In FY 19, we will invest in deepening our analysis of the current EBCF donor base and potential market to produce more sophisticated segmentation of our donors and prospects, specifically with respect to our new direction.  If we imagine a donor continuum from 1 to 5, with:

  • 1 = a donor completely understand our new direction and values and needs no education
  • n equity principles;
  • 3 = a donor who somewhat understands our direction, is not entirely on-board, but has the

potential to be moved with engagement; and

  • 5 = a donor are entirely against our new direction.

 Our goal is to prioritize our time and resources on donor segments who are in the 1- 3 range (at least initially).

FY 19 Goals

Goal #2 – Track & Set Targets Around Ability to Align Current Donors Objective #1 – Strengthen Database to Demonstrate Alignment  EBCF has a historical practice of some tracking and monitoring of grants issued by the Foundation which were funded by partners and donors’ funds housed at EBCF, but were heavily influenced by EBCF staff input.

  • EBCF grants management and programs staff would code in our back end these grants as

“Staff Initiated Grants” or SIGs. .  E.g. For several years, we were able to demonstrate a 3:1 leverage ratio in early childhood education – for every $1 EBCF invested in early childhood education, we were able to leverage an additional $3 of our donors’ resources.  It’s time to update our internal tracking systems to be able to demonstrate our ability to leverage our partners’ resources for A Just East Bay.

FY 19 Goals

Objective #3 – Set Team Goals for Alignment  The Development team will take on greater leadership in demonstrating the effectiveness of our donor cultivation and stewardship, including our donor education, in creating greater donor alignment.  In FY 19, the Development team will seek to set a team goal in terms of grant dollars aligned with the new CIP grantmaking framework that we are able to influence using an updated tracking system.  Given the work that is needed in updating our internal grants tracking, this will be more of an aspirational goal for the group rather than a hard target.
