  2. Mission/Vision  Fort Bend Seniors is committed to helping seniors remain independent by enhancing their quality of life through services and resources.  Vision Statement: Fort Bend Seniors will assist each senior citizen to achieve their independence.

  3. The History of FBS  Organized in 1974, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels (FBS)  By 1976, the program became a non-profit  1981, Fort Bend Seniors joined the United Way of Texas Gulf Coast and was able to leverage additional dollars.  1990 – Took over the management of the senior program in Waller County at the request of the Houston-Galveston Area Council Area Agency on Aging and United Way  Fort Bend Seniors is the only organization that provides Meals on Wheels to all persons over 60 years of age regardless of income.

  4. The History of FBS (cont.)  As We Successfully Celebrate 40 years  Serving seniors in Waller and Fort Bend County  10 senior congregate sites  2 major distribution sites – home delivered meals with several drop off sites

Programs In-Home Program Senior Center Program Meals 7 days per week to  homebound clients  Congregate Meals – 5 days per week Emergency Shelf Stable  Meals - twice per year – 5  Emergency Shelf Stable meals each Meals – twice per year – 5 meals each Telephone Reassurance   Transportation – to senior Case Management  centers, field trips and Pet Food Program *  shopping Supplemental Drink*   ESL Classes Emergency Preparedness*   ArtReach Enable Fort Bend  Medical Reserve Corp 

  6. Other Services  Health and Wellness  Nutrition Education  Recreation Activities  Information and Referral Services-Partnership s Each of these programs and services enable area seniors to remain in their homes and continue to be an integral part of the community for as long as possible.

  7. Eligibility  Senior Center – 60 years of age  In-Home Services- 60 years of age and impairments with ADLs.  Income is not a factor.

What have we learned as a result of implementing our outcomes?  Outcome Management Team o Intake Form – changed to capture more information o Hired a Data Entry Specialist  Management Team can focus on improving the quality of life for older adults  Communicate outcome results to all funding sources, business partners, volunteers, client focus groups, boards, etc.

No Duplication of Services between Fort Bend Seniors and Catholic Charities  Model for Congregate Program- seniors attend senior centers in close proximity  Catholic Charities – serve North Richmond  Transportation throughout Fort Bend County to one senior center is not – financially and physically feasible  Fort Bend Seniors serves all of Fort Bend County  Fort Bend Seniors is the only Meals on Wheels Provider  Continue to meet to ensure not a duplication of services and increase opportunities for seniors in Fort Bend County

The New Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels  Serve additional seniors in the future  A new facility will allow us to efficiently utilize the space and plan for the growing future needs of the new Active Adults (Baby Boomers).  Develop, expand and offer new programs to older adults  Serve meals from a more efficient kitchen facility  Receive higher quality services  Improve Health and Wellness Education Programs  Increase access through expanded hours  Improve meal choices

Accomplishments & Challenges  Sequestration & budget cuts affected many home-delivered meals programs adversely.  No Wait List  Utilizing community partnerships and other grant funding  Diversified funding sources  60% of 61 home delivered routes covered by volunteers  Opportunity to increase Community and Public Awareness  Agreement with Fort Bend County for renovation of current facility and new administrative building (model for other nonprofits)
