Cooperative Efforts

Resource Recovery & Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County (RRRASOC) – Joined in 2015

  • Reduced cost for recycling collection
  • Reduced cost for household hazardous waste collection events
  • Expanded options for services (Simple Recycling, etc.)

Michigan Green Communities

  • Bronze Level Recognition (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019)

Oakland County Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA) – Joined in 2017

  • Better coordination of invasive species management
  • Funded by State Grants & local matching funds for work completed

Recycling Updates

  • In 2016, Village Council approved and extension with our hauler

(now GFL) through 6/31/2021

  • New contract called for ability of residents to request 64-gallon

recycling carts at no additional cost

  • RRRASOC Membership allowed for expanded number of

household hazardous waste collection events

  • Simple Recycling curbside clothing recycling launched in March

  • August 2018 – State notifies several communities of high levels of

PFAS detected in Norton Creek & Huron River

  • Health Advisories issued – Huron River
  • “Do Not Eat” fish advisory
  • “Do Not Eat” foam advisory
  • Village began quarterly testing of drinking water supply
  • Groundwater supply, not the river
  • No detections to date
  • Source in Wixom continues to work on corrections, levels have

dropped substantially
