What is INTAS ?

  • A not-for-profit International Association (AISBL) for

the promotion of scientific cooperation between researchers in the NIS & its member states;

  • Established

in 1993 jointly by the European Community and (at that time 12) EU Member States;

Joint by like-minded countries; Helps preserve the scientific potential in the NIS

through international cooperation.

INTAS developed: Tailor-made, targeted programmes & instruments suited to country-specific needs in post-Soviet science; Flexible co-funding arrangements, involving partners both from INTAS member countries and NIS partner countries.

Organising Scientific Policy Workshops both in Member States and Partner Countries; Offering support to Summer Schools & other training activities; Awarding Conference Grants to support the

Over 1992-2005 INTAS launched 75 Calls :

v 10 Open Calls for project proposals (~ 167M€); v 11 Thematic/Regional Calls for project proposals (~ 16M€); v 21 Collaborative Calls for project proposals (~ 27M€); v 14 Young Scientist Fellowship calls (~ 16M€), from 1998 to 2005 (incl. 6 collaborative calls in 2005); v 3 Innovation Grant Calls (~ 1 M€), in 2003/04/05; v 16 Other Support Actions (infrastructure, conferences, summer schools, e-library).

  • support to ~ 15,800 teams of scientists;
  • ~ 45 innovation grants

CONCLUSION: INTAS ASSETS AND ADDED VALUE v More than 12 years of experience in supporting EU- Russia/NIS scientific collaboration; v Autonomy and simple management structure; v Integrated management of the different activities (projects, fellowships, other support actions); v Tailor-made, targeted programmes & instruments adapted to an evolving context; v Flexible co-funding arrangements; v In general: Flexibility, Versatility & Responsiveness. !! These assets should be preserved in the FP7. INTAS can serve as a well-proved model for international cooperation with other countries !!
