SLIDE 1 ENGAGE NY-MATH Through The Eyes Of A 1st Grader
Presented by: Ewing Elementary
SLIDE 2
Using a Common Core flip chart as well as the content emphasis by cluster packet, we looked at the modules from EngageNY. Seeing the modules follow the common core as well as the emphasis cluster packet per grade, some teachers began EngageNY math in September. Per district request and encouragement from leadership the entire school implemented EngageNY math in October.
How We Got Started
SLIDE 3
Rigor is evident in all the lessons. As you will see in the lesson, 1st graders are answering questions we would have never dreamed they could. MAP Math scores have shown gains in all grade levels. 1st grade classroom example: *MAP RIT Scores went from 157 to 174.7 *Benchmark Projected Proficient went from 75% to 90%

SLIDE 7 Differentiation, lack of in lessons. They use strategies for differentiation however there is no extension or reinforcement activities. Assessments, not enough for the length of the
- modules. They only provide a mid-module and an
end-of-module assessments. With the modules being large for the first two, more assessment is needed to accurately progress each student.
Things To Ponder
SLIDE 8
We will now go through a lesson my 1st graders completed a few week ago. You have a packet to refer to.
