Cinderella Orah | Digital & Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship | Fujitsu
Cinderella was choosing her next steps after her A Levels while her mother was ill and so needed to choose a course and university that was close to home. The game changer My mother passed away just as I started university and I became a carer for my
- siblings. I had to take a break in learning.
I kept hearing about apprenticeships and liked the idea of learning while earning. They were such a game changer. The only woman in the room The job I’m in now was the result of the first interview I had. I’m from London and the interview was for a Software Engineer Degree Apprenticeship at Fujitsu in
- Manchester. I was the only female there.
Fujitsu are always actively trying to recruit more women, but not a lot of women apply for STEM jobs. One of my current mentors was one of the only women in her degree apprenticeship and she’s made her way to the top, so it’s great to speak to her and learn from her. A job I love I was so pleased when I got the role and I love my job. I get to work on really interesting projects. Doing a degree apprenticeship at Manchester Met takes diligence, but long term the results will definitely be worth it. Changing the tradition I’m encouraging my younger siblings to pursue degree apprenticeships and they’re all looking forward to the
- pportunity.
For women thinking about getting into technology, I’d say engineering is for
- anybody. The tech industry has no
boundaries, it sees no colour, no gender, it has no preference. Anybody can do it. And we need more women. It makes it more creative to have a mix of people.
