FORECAST ACCURACY
Forecast Inaccuracy has been a major challenge and needs to improve in this season
- Leads to congestion
- Stacks being closed at short notice
- Space constraints
- Loss of Revenue for all parties
CURRENT CHALLENGES
- Congestion
- Shortage of plug points/Damaged plug points
- Cannot access reefer containers in certain areas
- Damaged Reefer platforms/Poor lighting in Reefer yard
- Lifting of containers whilst still plugged //Missing/damaged cables
- Reefer faults not reported timeously
- Inbound rail containers not pre-advised with temperature settings
WHAT WILL TPT DO DIFFERENTLY
- Reefers will be processed directly at the new Reefer yard
- Activate bays at AA3 to process RR1 Reefers
- Container Appointment System
- Based on volume projections the terminal has increased its staff complement to
ensure monitoring takes place
- Maintain all Reefer areas for access including improving lighting
- Database updated for Reefer Technician contacts
- Reefers coming in via rail will be checked before being called into DCT
WHAT CAN INDUSTRY DO DIFFERENTLY
- Make use of off-peak periods to stack reefers
- Check daily forecasts of available slots sent by sms and plan accordingly
- Reefer cables must not be left in the cradle to prevent theft
- Check that cables are present when opening twist locks
- Stack protocol reefers on 1st day of stack
- Evacuate import reefers
