FORECAST ACCURACY

Forecast Inaccuracy has been a major challenge and needs to improve in this season

  • Leads to congestion
  • Stacks being closed at short notice
  • Space constraints
  • Loss of Revenue for all parties

CURRENT CHALLENGES

  • Congestion
  • Shortage of plug points/Damaged plug points
  • Cannot access reefer containers in certain areas
  • Damaged Reefer platforms/Poor lighting in Reefer yard
  • Lifting of containers whilst still plugged //Missing/damaged cables
  • Reefer faults not reported timeously
  • Inbound rail containers not pre-advised with temperature settings

WHAT WILL TPT DO DIFFERENTLY

  • Reefers will be processed directly at the new Reefer yard
  • Activate bays at AA3 to process RR1 Reefers
  • Container Appointment System
  • Based on volume projections the terminal has increased its staff complement to

ensure monitoring takes place

  • Maintain all Reefer areas for access including improving lighting
  • Database updated for Reefer Technician contacts
  • Reefers coming in via rail will be checked before being called into DCT

WHAT CAN INDUSTRY DO DIFFERENTLY

  • Make use of off-peak periods to stack reefers
  • Check daily forecasts of available slots sent by sms and plan accordingly
  • Reefer cables must not be left in the cradle to prevent theft
  • Check that cables are present when opening twist locks
  • Stack protocol reefers on 1st day of stack
  • Evacuate import reefers
