Define minimal, quantifiable requirements that ProtoDUNE must achieve so that DUNE will have successful LBNC, CD-2, and CD-3b reviews. Define a date for each of these sets of requirements to be achieved. Due Date: May 1, 2017. James, with Thomson Use project management tools to manage the schedule, costs, and possible scope reductions so as to achieve the ProtoDUNE requirements. The planning should extend beyond integration. Due Date: June 1, 2017. Macier Develop a plan and budget with clearly defined objectives for operating ProtoDUNE at CERN. Due Date: August 1, 2017. James Assemble a task force to address photon detection in preparation for CD-2. Due Date: May 1, 2017. James Establish and document, with the DUNE Collaboration, the detector performance requirements necessary to achieve the physics goals for CP violation, proton decay, and astrophysical neutrinos of the DUNE project for the TDR. James Perform a comprehensive review of your bottom-up cost estimate (including CORE costs) prior to the next OPA review. Macier DOE should work with LBNF/DUNE and international partners to better define CD2 requirements for non-DOE contributions. Carolan

Far Detector

  • Data Transmission tests with 35m long cable were performed using

the ProtoDUNE signal cable type and bit errors were observed even when the FPGA cable compensations was at maximum.

  • Looking for ways to modify the APA frame in order to allow the cables

from the lower APA to be routed through the frame.

  • An alternate would be to use the larger gauge Gore cables but these

are very expensive and difficult to handle.

  • Defining DUNE installation stay-clear spaces will require additional

engineering support.

  • A 3.6m high Ross cage alternate is being considered where the 4m tall

field cage crates would be mounted to the work platform connected to the cage roof. This could be more efficient than transporting the 200 FC units as slung loads.

  • An LBNF/DUNE Far Site CAD integration workshop was held in March

to discuss integration and modeling tools.

Dual-Phase - Technical Progress

  • On 3 March, a layer of frost was observed on the

bottom south east corner of the cryostat on an area of approximately 50x50 cm2.

  • At the time, the tank was in the slow cool down phase

(few kelvin per hour) with a minimum measured gas temperature of 176K at the sensor located near the bottom of the drift cage. No liquid argon was introduced.

  • Infrared pictures on 4 March indicate a cold spot of

down to -40C on the outer structure at this specific corner.

  • Leak-testing of warmed cryostat by CERN and GTT

has not identified any leaks in this area; the delay on detector commissioning is still being assessed but will likely be on the order of several weeks.

  • ProtoDUNE-DP design review scheduled for 24-25 April
