Most crime in Downtown is non-violent, with very little stranger-on-stranger violent crime. For this period, Downtown crime accounted for only 6% of the City’s total crime, while representing almost half of the City’s population. This is further exemplified by the high density visitor, conventioneer, and special event attendees. Larceny from Auto continues to be Downtown’s most prevalent crime problem. However, we continue to work with our partners and make progress, with a reduction of 2% again this year, but a steady decline

  • f almost 50% over the last 8 years.

Zone 5 makes more arrests (30% of City) than any other Zone in the Department, and Quality of life related offenses represent the majority of Downtown arrests. Larceny represents 77% of all Downtown crime, with Larceny from Auto comprising 46%.

Analysis Observations

georgiatransitconnector.org www.AtlantaDowntown.com

Downtown – First six months 2016

Further analysis shows that a significant number of the larceny/auto crimes are related to items left in plain view inside unattended vehicles. Large number of victims (approximately 80%) are visitors from out of

  • town. Increased number of events has increased number of vehicles in Downtown.

Overall incidents of Part I crime is down 6% in Downtown and Zone 5 from last year. This represents a significant reduction from last year, which was a record crime reduction year.
