INTRODUCTION TO ANESTHESIA TECHNOLOGY
A.A.S. in Anesthesia Technology Introduction The Tarrant County College AAS degree in Anesthesia Technology teaches students how to facilitate patient safety during all procedures that require a patient be anesthetized in various hospital/clinical settings Career Opportunities Anesthesia Technology employment is expected to grow faster than average and has a very high demand in the DFW area. Being a new program, data are not available to predict its future. Most technologists work in hospitals but are also in demand at surgery centers and some outpatient facilities that require anesthesia. Program Content Studies combine on-campus anesthesia technology courses with actual clinical experience at a hospital/clinic. In addition, studies cover areas such as:
- Physical Principles of Anesthesia care
- Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Procedures
- Anesthesia Equipment and Methodology
- Anesthesia Safety and Patient Care
The 2-year AAS has applied for program accreditation with the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians/ CAAHEP. Graduates are eligible to take the ASATT Exam to become a certified Anesthesia Technologist. The Advancement Program is designed for the certified anesthesia technician who requires additional knowledge and skills in clinical practice in order to meet the established standards of practice of a certified anesthesia technologist.TBD Starting Salaries The ASATT states the average starting salary for a technologist in the United States between $36,000 to $55,000/year depending on the setting of employment.
