Sam Houston Area Council Why the Merger? • Because things are always changing and the demographics suggest this is a good change • Because both Districts have talent in areas that can complement each other • Because Scouting is too important to not try and improve and optimize • Because it’s about the boys!

  4. Sam Houston Area Council Change in Scouting • Scouting is more than 100 years old and has undergone MANY changes – Rank, locations, requirements, programs • New Districts form (+ and -) all the time. • Did you know our Districts used to be called something different?

  5. Sam Houston Area Council The Origin of Eagle Trail & Bayshore Districts AND RAVEN DISTRICTS 1964 BAYSHORE DISTRICT FORMED The dates in this timeline and the charts that follow are based on District patches and personal recollections. Verification against Council records pending.

  6. Sam Houston Area Council The Origin of Eagle Trail & Bayshore Districts By 1963 Thunderbird District had formed.

  7. Sam Houston Area Council The Origin of Eagle Trail & Bayshore Districts 1964 Bayshore District formed with several units that had been in the San Jacinto District.

  8. Sam Houston Area Council The Origin of Eagle Trail & Bayshore Districts 1969 Apollo District formed from the Southeast District.

  9. Sam Houston Area Council The Origin of Eagle Trail & Bayshore Districts 1974 Apollo District divided to form Akokisa and Raven Districts.

  10. Sam Houston Area Council The Origin of Eagle Trail & Bayshore Districts 1976 Akokisa District renamed the San Jacinto District.
