ROBUR ABSORPTION TECHNOLOGY

slide-6
SLIDE 6

Robur absorption chillers are appliances producing cold water through a thermodynamic cycle directly activated by Natural Gas/LPG

A BIG OPPORTUNITY FOR WARM & HOT CLIMATES:

slide-7
SLIDE 7

Main features of the absorption technology

  • WATER-AMMONIA

ABSORPTION CYCLE RECOVERING HEAT FROM OUTSIDE AIR AS LOW AS -20°C AND/OR PRODUCE COOLING WITH EXTERNAL AIR UP TO +50°C

  • DIRECT PRIMARY ENERGY INPUT: Natural Gas/LPG
  • PROVEN TECHNOLOGY WITH HIGH RELIABILITY: SUBSTANTIALLY NO

MOVING PARTS

  • EXTREMELY LOW ELECTRICAL POWER CONSUMPTION: LESS

THAN 0,9 kW FOR 17,7 KW OF COOLING OUTPUT AND ELECTRIC POWER DEMAND IS REDUCED BY 86%

slide-8
SLIDE 8
  • NO WATER CONSUMPTION AND NO NEED OF COOLING TOWERS
  • ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY: AMMONIA IS A NATURAL REFRIGERANT

WITH NO IMPACT ON GREENHOUSE EFFECT AND OZONE LAYER

  • NO IMPACT ON INFRASTRUCTURES: NO NEED OF HUGE

INVESTMENTS FOR NEW POWER PLANTS AND POWER GRID

Main features of the absorption technology

  • A BACKUP ELECTRIC GENERATOR CAN EASILY SUPPORT THE ELECTRIC

POWER CONSUMED BY THESE UNITS (IN CASE OF POWER CUTS)

slide-9
SLIDE 9

Robur absorption technology has been developed since the sixties, starting from original patents of the beginning of the twentieth century (also by Albert Einstein, among others).

  • Water-ammonia sealed circuit :

no top-up, no drain, extremely simple maintenance;

  • Natural refrigerant : no CFC,

HCFC, HFC;

  • One single moving component

(solution pump) : very high reliability;

  • Low electrical consumption:

1/10 of an equivalent electrical chiller

Up to 49% of the overall electricity demand of a typical house

Electrical saving

66% of the electricity demand for HVAC 88% of saving compared to an electrical chiller of equivalent cooling capacity

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Savings of up to 88% of electricity demand compared to a traditional electrical system (less than 170 W per each TR). Highly beneficial where power supply is a concern. Particularly effective in power peak shaving during seasonal electrical demand: optimization of the installed electrical capacity. Dramatically reducing the need for power supply in isolated off-grid applications: no need to connect remote locations. Excellent in providing a reliable and stable air conditioning even where power supply may suffer from outages or instability (a backup genset can easily support the electric load of absorption chillers).

Extremely low electrical consumption

slide-17
SLIDE 17

Saving on infrastructures

A massive deployment of the absorption technology would imply huge benefits on strategic infrastructures, avoiding large-scale investments into new power plants or upgrade of the existing power grid. One 1000 MW power plant is worth 1 bn USD

slide-18

Over 400.000 water-ammonia absorption chillers have been installed worldwide. The absorption cycle is substantially static, with no moving parts, therefore extremely reliable, with long life-cycle. The sealed circuit, in welded construction, is designed to be maintenance free (refrigerant charge for life). Overall maintenance costs very low. The modular approach provides operational flexibility and further reliability and embedded redundancy (no back-up required). No loss of refrigerant means no performance degradation over time.

High reliability

slide-20
SLIDE 20

Electrical chillers are manufactured by assembling components from different suppliers. Maintenance schedule implies

  • perations on the refrigerant.

Robur chillers have a sealed system

  • f welded construction and

maintenance free design (refrigerant charge for life).

No performance degradation over time

Maintenance of a Robur absorption chiller

  • ZERO maintenance.
  • Clean the combustion chamber.
  • Check belt and pulleys every 12000 hours of
  • peration.
  • Clean the coil.
slide-23
SLIDE 23

Intrinsically suitable for high thermal lift, allowing a direct exchange with outdoor air, with no need for cooling towers and the relevant water consumption. Robur absorption technology is the winning solution where water is a valuable resource.

No water consumption

slide-24
SLIDE 24

Absorption chillers dedicated to hot and humid climates, with extended

  • perational range for high outdoor

temperatures (HT versions, 50+ °C). No cross-limitation between air temperature and chilled water temperature.

Large operational range

slide-25
SLIDE 25

A natural refrigerant (ammonia) with no impact on greenhouse effect (Global Warming Potential, GWP=0) and no impact on the ozone layer (Ozone Depletion Potential, ODP=0). No Fluorinated or Chlorinated refrigerants (F-gas), noxious for the environment and progressively banned worldwide. The maintenance-free sealed circuit design and a completely welded construction, means no potential release of refrigerant.

An environmental-friendly refrigerant

slide-26
SLIDE 26

Natural gas is a clean source of energy, respectful of the environment. The direct use of Natural Gas in Robur absorption units dramatically reduces

  • verall carbon emissions and the use of

heavier fuels for power generation.

An environmental-friendly energy

Special versions (LB) to produce chilled water at negative temperatures (down to -10°C). Industrial processes or refrigeration applications, for example in the food industry.

Negative temperatures

Negative temperatures consent possible “peak-shaving” solutions for cooling demand, through ice-storage systems.
