An Integrated Regional Falls Program Success Story

Margaret had been referred to the program by CCAC and attended a screening clinic in Orillia. At the clinic Margaret discussed her fear of falling and falls prevention strategies. Margaret was motivated to maintain her independence by improving her gait through exercise, balance, and muscle strength.

History

  • The Provincial Falls Prevention Project was initiated in

November 2010 as a LHIN Priority Project

  • The project was co-led by LHINs and Public Health
  • The objective is to improve the quality of life for Ontario

Seniors aged 65 years and over and lessen the burden of falls on the health care system by reducing the number and impact of falls

  • This collaboration between LHINs and PH was the first of

its kind in Ontario and will serve as a template for future collaborations
