EAST OTERO DISTRICT – BIG PICTURE

  • DISTRICT OWNS A LOT OF PROPERTIES
  • SLOWLY DECLINING LONG TERM ENROLLEMENT
  • SHORT TERM OVER CROWDING AT PRIMARY & INTERMEDIATE SCHOOLS
  • EAST BUILDING IN POOR SHAPE
  • MOST BUILDINGS IN GOOD SHAPE, BUT WITH SOME FUNCTIONAL

INEFFICIENCIES

  • COMMUNITY BENEFIT FOR SCHOOL CAMPUSES IN CLOSER PROXIMITY TO

EACH OTHER

  • Does not make a big impact on community perception of

the district facilities

COMMENTS:

  • Minimum renovations required at west building for CDS
  • Renovation at JSHS would seek to address security

issues such as exterior classroom access, etc. PROS:

  • CDS would have good playground, drop off, lots of space
  • Would get a new Primary School
  • All Schools are in closer proximity
  • Getting rid of East Building is a financial benefit

CONS:

  • Does not address the HS with the biggest functional

problems in the district

COMMENTS:

  • This option had the most merit and will be developed in

more detail for the January master plan meeting.

connect the existing HS building with the gym building. PROS:

  • Puts Primary and Pre-School in close proximity
  • Addresses HS building issues
  • Addresses capacity issues at Primary School
  • Most visible improvements
  • Build from existing buildings seen better by community

CONS:

  • Leaves question of what you do with the old HS building
