  2. The Lee Highway and North Glebe Road improvement project is inclusive of all modes of transportation to achieve goals to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and improve traffic flow.

  3.  A traffic impact study was conducted in 2004  Lee Highway (Route 29) and Glebe Road (Route 120) are owned and maintained by Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)  Both are classified as principal arterials  Speed limits are 30 mph with the exception of Glebe Rd north of Lee Hwy, where the speed limit is posted at 35 mph  Average Daily Traffic Volume ◦ Glebe Road carries approximately 18,000 vehicles per day (vpd) ◦ Lee Highway carries approximately 22,000 vpd

  5. • Confusing sidewalk connections • Non-compliant handicap ramps • Sidewalk obstructions • Narrow sidewalks

  10.  Challenges ◦ Coordination of all elements, utility undergrounding, traffic signals, street lights, transit stops, etc. ◦ Coordination & approval with VDOT  Constraints ◦ Easements and Right-of-Way  Funding ◦ The project is funded in partnership between Arlington and VDOT

  11.  Utility undergrounding construction began in January 2017 – 18 months duration  Finish design of the streetscape improvements while utility undergrounding construction is occurring  Target Timeline ◦ Begin construction of streetscape improvements in Summer 2018 after the utility undergrounding is complete
