State of Illinois Guidance
Illinois State Board of Education Guidance: Phase 4
- In-person instruction strongly encouraged
- A high priority should be placed on providing in-person instruction for
students who have individualized education programs (IEPs), 504 plans, and/or who receive English language supports when building an equitable D62 Back to School plan for 2020-2021
- Districts must prepare for alternative structure to in-person for students with
elevated health risks
- Districts must plan for return to remote instruction pending resurgence or
second wave of the virus
Illinois State Board of Education Guidance: Phase 4
- Follow Phase 4 IL Dept of Public Health guidelines which includes:
○ Requiring use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including face coverings; ○ Prohibiting more than 50 individuals from gathering in one space; ○ Requiring social distancing be observed, as much as possible; ○ Requiring that schools conduct symptom screenings and temperature checks or require that individuals self-certify that they are free of symptoms before entering school buildings; and requiring an increase in schoolwide cleaning and disinfection

D62 Health and Safety Protocols and Improvements
D62 Health and Safety Protocols
- Face coverings will be required for all staff and students
- PPE including masks and sanitizer will be provided to ALL staff
- Isolated waiting rooms have been identified in all facilities
- Limits will be placed on non-essential building visitors
- Symptoms Screenings and temperature checks will be required for visitors
- Social distancing will be required as much as possible in all areas
- There will be no gatherings of 50 or more individuals in one space

Transportation Protocols

who are required to transverse a state-identified hazardous crossing,

each bus
- Parents should complete the District 62 COVID -19 self-screener
before their children board the bus and keep them home if they have any symptoms
- Student temperatures will be taken prior to a student boarding the bus

- Devices in homes for all students
- Hot spots for families without home wireless internet
- Familiar online learning tools: Zoom, Seesaw, Google Classroom
- Mid-July family survey
○ 2,300+ parents responded of the approx 2,900 parents in D62 ○ 74% of families requesting in-person learning ○ 26% of families requesting remote learning
Enrollment Confirmation
Following tonight’s D62 Back to School presentation to the Board of Education and to our community, all families will receive a confirmation Google form on July 21st. Families will be asked to confirm each child’s enrollment in either the in-person
- ption or in the remote learning option.
Student Services
Special Education and Individual Health Needs
- Student Services Department is currently developing plans for contacting
parents of students with medical needs.
- Student Services Department is planning to deliver remote instruction,
educational and health services if it is not safe for a student to return to school.
- It is likely that changes may be required as it relates to educational planning
for many of our students including:
○ Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) ○ 504 Plans ○ Individual Health Plans (IHP’s)
Special Education and Individual Health Needs
- Instructional and Self-Contained Special Education Classrooms
○ Social distancing may not be possible in all programs based on the needs of students. ○ Some of our intellectually disabled students will struggle to understand the concepts of wearing masks and social distancing. ○ For staff serving special education and medically fragile students, including related services staff, the following will be emphasized: ■ the use of appropriate PPE, ■ practice of social distancing as much as possible, ■ regular hand washing, sanitizing, cleaning and disinfecting, ■ limiting travel of itinerant staff, ■ discussing services that may need to be provided remotely to minimize risks ■ assessing needs and determining services for students on an case by case basis.
Social Emotional Learning
- The District will be conducting an SEL needs assessment for individual students to
determine supports, prior to students returning to school.
- The Student Services Department will be providing individuals with SEL and trauma
responsive resources and interventions to help support students return to school including: ○ Staff ○ Parents ○ Administration ○ Mental Health professionals
- Behavior specialist support will be allocated across district to support students in
crisis or in need of more intensive interventions and resources.

If Someone Tests Positive for COVID-19
- Those tested positive for COVID-19 to stay home
- Possible cases of COVID-19 to be reported to school to initiate contact
tracing
- Individuals do not return to school for 10 days after symptoms first appeared
- Individuals must be fever free for 72 hours, without the use of fever-reducing
medications
- People who have had close contact with someone who tested positive for
COVID-19 must isolate at home and monitor symptoms for 14 days
If Someone Tests Positive for COVID-19
- State does not require complete school closure due to a positive COVID-19
test
- Students or employees returning from illness related to COVID-19 required to
check in with the school nurse and school administrator
