  6. CONTENT STUDIES In third grade students will become researchers and presenters in two different content areas. Continuing the work began in grades K through 2, students will develop the skills needed to be a life -long investigative learner. As students are older and more able to conceive of places and people that are outside of their immediate lives, topics of study for grades 3 and above will begin to move from the “here and now.” This year we will study the Brooklyn Bridge and the Lenape Indians.

  7. STATE TESTS The best test prep is a Common-Core aligned curriculum that aids students in continuing their development as strong readers, writers and mathematicians. As time goes on, we will work with students on specific test taking strategies. Along with content and skills, we will be assisting students in growing a metacognitive awareness of their strengths and weaknesses. This awareness allows students to remain calm during the test, and know when and how to do their best work for their own individual learning style.

  8. HOMEWORK  Reading  Children are expected to read for at least 30 minutes every night.  Children will choose books at school that they can read, understand and tell about. These books will travel between home and school until the book is finished. It is very important that kids only read 1 independent chapter book at a time.  Try and create a comfortable reading routine at home:  Have a regular reading time  Try and find a comfy and peaceful place to read  Get in the habit of returning the book to their backpack when done  Choice Board  Additional homework will be give out on a choice board.  Children will be able to choose from a variety of assignments aligned with units of study we are working on at school.  Work can be handed in at any time before the final due date.  DreamBox  Online math website that supports that way that we are teaching math at school.  Log on and complete activities three times a week.  We have the ability to monitor student activity and will do so.

  9. SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL WORK Across all grades at Peck Slip, we value working with children to develop strong social and emotional skills. Research show that strengths in these areas are proven to have a direct correlation to success in later life.  Healthy Habits  Quiet Time  Partnerships  Best Work  Homework  Work Time  School Rules  Peace Corner
