- Articulation meetings between elementary and
middle school
- 6th grade counselor will sit on all CSE/504 meetings at
the elementary level
- Summer orientation for all incoming 6th graders at
the end of August (students will receive their lockers)
- Classroom guidance activities in the fall
- 1st week of school: Welcome to RMS!!
- Grading grace for quarter 1
Role of the Counselor
- Advise students/parents on academic
planning
- Facilitate parent-team conferences
- Counselor is member of each 6th grade team
- Provide direct counseling services to
individuals and groups
- Provide classroom guidance lessons on topics
such as career exploration, goal setting, bullying, etc.
Meeting with your Counselor
Students can meet with their counselor:
vBefore School vDuring Lunch vAfter School
Lunch Groups:
vAll students are invited, beginning in the fall, to participate in lunch groups. vEach group meets during lunch periods once a week for a 6-8 week period. vGroups include: book club, study skills, current connections, scrapbooking.

A “Team” consists of the School Counselor and the following teachers:
- English
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
- Special Education
Teams share/disseminate information, plan curriculum, and facilitate parent- team conferences.

6th Grade Choices
Middle School should be an enjoyable time for your child. To ensure you make the best class selections, take some time to discuss the following choices with your child:
- French, Italian, Mandarin Chinese or Spanish
(Must choose 1 and an alternate)
- Band*, Chorus, Orchestra*, or Musicology
(Must choose 1)
- Option of Lunch Chorus
(Band or Orchestra students)
* Previous experience is required
