PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: EXPANSION OF GO SERIVCE

  • Metrolinx is expanding GO Transit's Lakeshore East rail corridor to offer new GO

train service from Oshawa to Bowmanville.

  • We are extending GO train network by nearly 20 kilometres and building four new

stations will give people in Durham more transit options and help drive economic growth and job creation.

  • The new GO rail service is expected to begin by 2023-24.
  • Expanded rail service will provide Durham Region with more direct connections to

the larger GO transit network, helping to reduce congestion in the GTHA and connecting people to jobs. This will also help minimize greenhouse gas pollution by reducing car trips and improve travel times.

  • To complete the EA review and gap analysis, updated studies, and prepare for any

additional EA work that may be required.

  • To plan, procure, design, and construct new stations and 401 bridge.
  • To finalize the Agreement-in-Principle with CP to provide new rail service to Bowmanville.
  • A municipal engagement tour is currently underway that will include a Metrolinx

presentation to each municipal council with a presentation to Durham Regional Council in September 2017.

  • Metrolinx has also held Mobility Hub workshops in June 2017 in Courtice and Bowmanville.
  • We will be working with regional staff on stations and other rail corridor elements that will

involve planning and consultations in Fall 2017.
