Core competencies are sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all students need to develop in order to engage in deep learning and life-long learning.

The ultimate goal is for learners to employ the core competencies every day in school and in life, and for the core competencies to be an integral part of the learning in all curriculum areas.

TEACHER'S ROLE

Help students and parents/guardians understand the language of the core competencies. Support students' personal understanding by intentionally noticing, naming and connecting the core competencies to student learning. Provide opportunities for students to learn and to reflect on the core competencies and how they are expressed inside and outside of the classroom.

AUTHENTIC EXPLICIT

Be intentional about drawing connections for students. Want self-assessment activities to be more than a compliance template. Meaningful development of student

USING CORE COMPETENCIES

Teachers Teachers can use core competencies for planning learning experiences that effectively develop what students can do, not just what they are to know.
