Core competencies are sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all students need to develop in order to engage in deep learning and life-long learning.

students possess different competencies at different levels based on many factors they are not standards for judging or comparing identifying competencies helps students recognize their strengths and work on any gaps to help improve their learning
Growth and Progress The competency profiles emphasize the concept of expanding and growing. They are progressive and additive, as illustrated by the concentric circles in this graphic.
The ultimate goal is for learners to employ the core competencies every day in school and in life, and for the core competencies to be an integral part of the learning in all curriculum areas.
Help students and parents/guardians understand the language of the core competencies. Support students' personal understanding by intentionally noticing, naming and connecting the core competencies to student learning. Provide opportunities for students to learn and to reflect on the core competencies and how they are expressed inside and outside of the classroom.
