New Professionals
START: A good starting point would also be to read the Dunkel and Schuh (1998) book on advising student groups and
- rganizations.
REVISED: As a starting point, I intend to read the book “Advising Student Groups and Organizations” (Dunkel & Schuh, 1998) in the winter term (January to April) of 2011. After reading each chapter, I will summarize three to five key issues in point form within a half-a-page summary, focusing particularly on useful strategies I have been unaware of when dealing with groups.
Mid-Career Professionals
I will journal about my problem-solving process, identifying the challenges, ethical issues at play and different stakeholder perspectives after each particularly challenging situation where the feeling of unease is present a day after the decision was made. Over the next twelve months, I will develop a relationship with a peer at another institution at CAFCE 2010, who shares similar
- rganizational challenges. I will seek feedback from this peer on
politically sensitive issues involving more than 2 Deans/Directors/ Departments.
