Improved collaborative behaviour along the ECS value chains and beyond
There are three main effects on the behaviour of players in the context of ECSEL’s projects and actions
Improvement of cooperative behaviour between stakeholders, including between competitors, between hardware and software players, between industry and academia. Breaking silos and enabling cooperation between sectors and across value chains (which is crucial in the Digital Economy). Integration of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the ECS value chain and in innovation intensive activities!
80% of respondents to the survey believe that participation in ECSEL projects is beneficial/crucial in order to become part of the ECS EU Ecosystem ECSEL puts together players from ECS, automotive and teleco sectors in the very same projects → 1/3 respondents believe that ECSEL promotes cross-disciplinary innovation. ECSEL top 3 benefits for SMEs according to our study Increased R&D Spending Increased development of new products, applications… Increased recognition within the value chain

For 55% of respondents digital industry is the most relevant application area ECSEL helps creating reusable frameworks and tools allowing European industry to digitalise faster and set standards

Driving innovation and scientific excellence of the ECS ecosystem
ECSEL plays a role in the R&D strategy of a large portion of the ECS ecosystem (58% of respondents) ECSEL enables a high number of scientific publications per project with high impact in terms of knowledge dissemination. ECSEL enables continuing research during innovation activities (RIA) which is a key requirement for stakeholders and allows industry cooperation with universities and RTOs
ECSEL has a strong impact on innovativeness and scientific excellence of the ECS ecosystem according to all evidence gathered
ECSEL resulted in increased R&D spending for 70% of the organisations participating in projects (multiplier effect) Also due to the significant size of ECSEL’s projects…
