SLIDE 14

How the Program Works

14

  • Since 2016, WHA has marketed a high speed Internet

connection for public housing residents through the municipal Internet provider for $10/month.

  • From 2016-2018, program participants received a free

router.

  • Currently, approximately 50% of WHA’s 600 public housing

residents participate.

  • Program participation reached a high of 60%.
  • Residents are free to choose any cable/Internet provider.

Agenda Albany HA Wilson HA North Little Rock HA Q&A

slide-15
SLIDE 15

How the Program Works

  • Monthly Internet service fee of $10/month is added to

residents’ monthly rent.

  • WHA pays Greenlight one monthly payment to cover all

residents’ Internet service accounts.

  • If a resident does not pay the Internet service fee, Internet

service is discontinued and the router must be returned.

Mindset for Fundraising

19

 READ, WEBINAR, PODCAST , ETC to learn how to fundraise.  Read to stay on top of TRENDS, especially fundraising technology and industry reports.  Find a MENTOR.  NETWORK-conferences, chamber meetings, professional groups.  You are creating impact and changing lives, not begging for MONEY!  You will get REJECTED most of the time. So what?  Have your ELEVATOR SPEECH ready at all times.  What has your program done for those you SERVE? Can you prove it…DATA?  What does your WEBSITE and SOCIAL MEDIA presence say about your work? Or not?  Do you have client STORIES? One that moves you?  If possible, engage your BOARD.  Create a fundraising plan. Google, there are tons! Don’t RECREATE the wheel!  Create a BUDGET for your program or project.  Not all money is GOOD money!  Find a good PROSPECT RESEARCH system to do your HOMEWORK (GrantStation, Instrumentl, Foundation Center)  Do your HOMEWORK about the funder (GuideStar, 990s, Foundation Center)  If possible, build a TEAM across your organization, because successful fundraising is not executed in a SILO.  Most important, SELF CARE. Not easy, but when you can see the fruits of your labor, its worth it.

Got a moving story? Tell it!
