Leveraging Leveraging Stakeholder Volunteer Topic 1 Stakeholder Volunteers Programs 2 Topic 2 Nashville Topic 3 The programs that were leveraged for the Partnership : Public • ROSS Grants, Jobs Plus, and Social Service Coordinators Topic 4 Library • Choice Neighborhood Implementation (CNI) Grant Topic 5 Memphis • City of Memphis Summer Youth Programs Housing Topic 6 • Shelby County Government Internship Programs Authority • City of Memphis Interns from the University of Memphis and Topic 7 Lemoyne-Owen College • Each program requires community partnerships and input from the Topic 8 Residents • MHA uses the Resident Advisory Board and the Advisory Councils to vet, evaluate and recruit resources 13

MHA’s Approach to Finding Volunteers Leveraging Topic 1 Stakeholder and Resources Volunteers Topic 2 Nashville Topic 3 Public • The Executive Office of the Memphis Housing Authority (MHA) Topic 4 Library coordinated efforts internally and externally to seek volunteers and Topic 5 funds. Memphis Housing • Volunteers came from across the Agency. Topic 6 Authority • MHA also reached out to local government and the philanthropic Topic 7 community to assist with funding the program. • Partners were recruited for specific roles in implementing Topic 8 ConnectHome. • We needed people and the resources that they bring -- “Time, Talent, and Money”. 14

MHA’s Approach to Finding Leveraging Topic 1 Stakeholder Volunteers and Resources Volunteers Topic 2 Nashville Topic 3 INTERNAL : Public • MHA’s small Information Technology (IT) department led the Topic 4 Library charge to find low cost devices and negotiate prices for Topic 5 residents. Memphis Housing • Accounting Topic 6 Authority • Identified the costs associated with the program and any funds that might be used to cover in-house expenses Topic 7 • Solidified the fund raising goal and kept the Executive Team informed of Topic 8 any income streams that might be utilized in the future. • Staff at all levels were asked to assist in any way possible, from distribution, to inventory and follow-up contact with program recipients. 15

MHA’s Approach to Finding Leveraging Topic 1 Stakeholder Volunteers and Resources 2 Volunteers Topic 2 Nashville Topic 3 EXTERNAL RESOURCES : Public • Using this core group, MHA then reached out to the larger Topic 4 Library community of the City of Memphis for additional funding. Topic 5 Memphis • MHA needed the talent of its staff and their time to attract Housing Topic 6 Authority funds from the larger community. Topic 7 • MHA staff are the best messengers to attract and keep volunteers. Topic 8 16

Leveraging Topic 1 The “What” for Residents Stakeholder Volunteers Topic 2 Nashville Topic 3 The “what “ for residents is the connection to the larger community Public • On-line registration of students into Shelby County Schools and tracking of student progress Topic 4 • Library Post secondary schools enrollment and on-line courses • Training programs • Job searches • Entertainment (limited amenities in some communities) Topic 5 Memphis By leveraging the staff of the ROSS grants (Service Coordinators and Jobs Plus) Housing • Assisted with recruiting families for the T-Mobile tablet distribution event Topic 6 • Families receive assistance using the apps for education. Authority • Keeping in touch with social service coordinators • Job searches Topic 7 • Medical appointments • Helped residents to prepare budgets to maintain connectivity past the two years of funding provided by MHA. Topic 8 The Choice Implementation Grant • Health Education Counselors (how to arrange appointments and medical refills on-line) • Education Counselors assistance with job training, post secondary education, obtaining the High School Equivalency Diploma (formerly GED) 20
