slide-7
SLIDE 7

The Issue

Researchers are not citing

  • ur CTSA Grant after using
  • ur services/engaging

with our Hub.

slide-8
SLIDE 8

Possible Causes

Why are researchers not citing our grant?

  • They are not being told/reminded by staff that

help them with their projects.

  • Extended time elapsed between engagement

with TraCS and publication. They forget.

slide-9
SLIDE 9

Current CitE Promotion

  • 1. Developed a CitE

guide (pdf) — download from our website

slide-10
SLIDE 10

Current CitE Promotion

  • 2. Graphic in staff and faculty email signatures –

reminder to cite.

slide-11
SLIDE 11

  • 3. Clickable graphic in website footer on all pages

+ devoted webpage at tracs.unc.edu/cite

slide-12
SLIDE 12

Current CitE Promotion

  • 4. Reminders in our weekly email news blast sent

to over 6,000 recipients.

slide-13
SLIDE 13

Current CitE Promotion

  • 5. Put graphic and information on all templates

(PowerPoint slides, stationery, etc…)

slide-14
SLIDE 14

Current Usage/Publications

From 2018-2020, 74 publications cited our grant.

This number will change as non-compliant publications become compliant, but as of now, 74 publications are cited.

slide-15
SLIDE 15

Ideas to encourage researchers to CitE

  • Using our tracking and evaluation system,

identify users that engaged with us on a project, but had no follow-up communication. Contact them at 1 year and 2 years with communication:

– “we hope you have been making progress in your research / we are available to help / reminder to cite us”

  • Reward repeat occurrences of citing us
  • Reminders to researchers that are not citing us
  • Develop mini CitE campaigns for each service to

implement

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Challenges

  • How do we ensure investigators remember

to cite us when years have passed between service delivery from our Hub and their publication?

– For those that use our CTSA frequently, it’s less

  • f an issue.
slide-17
SLIDE 17

Next Steps

  • Other Hubs can share what they have done,

doing, plan to do

  • Get new ideas and take back to our Hubs
  • Construct a plan (maybe with a group) that can

be shared and adapted at each of our Hubs

– Investigate possible reasons for not citing. Is there a theme? A “popular” reason not citing? – Initial Awareness to audiences (new researchers, new to TraCS) – Reminder Campaign

Questions/Discussion

Thank you!

slide-19
SLIDE 19

Open Discussion Topics of Interest

  • COVID-19 Research Storytelling: How

are you handling this at your institution?

  • Unified message and graphic for

getting service users to cite the CTSA (language, graphics, templates, hashtags)

  • Social media strategies
  • Facilitating cross-hub stories
  • Raising international

awareness/visibility of what is being done at the hubs, and highlighting international collaborations

  • Communications considerations as

we move from all COVID all the time

  • Internal WFH adjustments
  • How have people adjusted their

websites to be more ‘pandemic relevant’
