Macbeth plans Banquo and his sons death. 2. Two murderers approach Banquo and his son and attacks Banquo. The son escapes. 3. Macbeth is celebrating his coronation at his feast. 4. Macbeth is told that Banquo is dead and begins to see the ghost of Banquo at the table. 5. Lady Macbeth asks all the guests to leave so Macbeth can have space. 7

So this gives you more information about: how, when, where or how often the event took place. Banquo and his son were ambushed in the woods late in the evening. Late in the evening , Banquo and his son were ambushed in the woods. 1. Macbeth planned Banquo and his sons demise in his room. 2. Macbeth attends his coronation with a smile across his face. 3. The servant informed Macbeth of Banquo's death late that night. 10

To improve sentences by using a range of sentence openers FRONTED SUBORDINATE CLAUSE A fronted subordinate clause is a subordinate clause placed at the start of the sentence. Remember a subordinate clause requires a main clause to work. The servant informed Mabeth of Banquo's death whilst he was celebrating. Whilst he was celebrating , the servant informed Macbeth of Banquo's death. 1. The celebrations were in full swing when the servant arrived. 2. Macbeth was stunned after hearing that Banquo's son had escaped. 3. Macbeth began to see Banquo's ghost since hearing the news. 11

Improve the paragraph by changing the sentence openers. Remember to use verb, adverb and fronted subordinate clauses. You can also extend the ideas by using conjunctions and improve the paragraph entirely. Macbeth was worried about Banquo due to the witches' prophecies. Macbeth knew Banquo would be hunting in the morning with his son. Macbeth met two murderers in the dead of night. He told them to kill Banquo and his son. Then Macbeth held a feast in his honour of his new role - King of Scotland. The men and women celebrated. A guest told Macbeth that Banquo was late. Banquo and his son were being hunted by the murderers. Banquo was murdered but his son fled. Macbeth was informed that Banquo was dead but his son had escaped. Macbeth began to see Banquo's ghost. Lady Macbeth told the guests to leave so Macbeth could rest. 13
