Water Management

  • 6 Licenced Discharge Points (LDPs):

– Require frequent inspections & sampling during discharge; – Submitted application to EPA September 2013 to add 3 new LDPs to EPL 528;

  • Charbon required to undertake additional water quality monitoring & submit to EPA;
  • November 2014 received a revised EPL with 3 additional LDPs.
  • Since last CCC meeting (15/09/2014 – 09/03/2015) ≈ 450 mm rainfall
  • [Long-term annual average ≈ 684 mm – from BoM station at Rylstone;
  • 4 Exceedances of EPL528 for TSS & Turbidity from LDP003 & LDP005.

Exceedances covered by Condition L2.5 of EPL528; all other conditions were below license limits.

Environmental Management

  • Monitoring: data for dust has shown that the mine has been in

compliance consistently for > 12 months:

  • HVAS 2014 – 2015 (to date): *Compliant.
  • Depositional Dust 2014: *Compliant
  • 2x depositional dust exceedances (Feb & Apr) due to contamination by organic matter;
  • 1x depositional dust exceedance (May) due to contamination – deemed to be non-

mining related. In any case, location where DDG located is on property with whom Charbon holds a negotiated agreement which removes limits including dust.

  • All 2015 results to date have been in compliance.
  • Dust PRP: *Now Complete
  • Condition U3 Report Submitted to EPA on 14 April 2014;
  • Comments received from EPA on 13 June 2014; a report addressing these was

submitted on 30 July 2014;

  • Condition U1 & U2 Reports Submitted to EPA on 15 August 2014.

Environmental Management

  • Noise Management:

– Quarterly noise monitoring conducted during December 2014, March 2015 showed the mine to be in compliance; – Minimal operation occuring onsite during December 2014 monitoring. – Implemented new noise mitigation strategy for the Southern and Western Outlier mining areas.

  • Reduced Equipment Fleet, Operations dictated by weather conditions.

– 2 x Noise complaints received on the 17th and 18th February 2015. EPA monitored at affected residence and results were below the noise criteria of

  • 35dB. Charbon was compliant with 2010 Consent Conditions and as such no

further action was required. Charbon will continue to adopt the noise mitigation strategies to maintain compliance and best practice.

Environmental Management

  • Subsidence management – on-going;
  • Land management, including:

– Seeding of Southern Open-cut rehabilitation - October 2014; – Weed Spraying (2015 - extensive program)

  • Review of Site Management Plans, on-going;
  • EPBC Approval Conditions – on-site Compensatory Habitat;

– Positive Covenant placed over on-site Compensatory Habitat Areas; – Gifting process to NSW NPWS as a SCA *Finalised Dec 2014;

Rehabilitation

17

  • Planned 2015 Rehab – Blue;
  • Western outlier has had bulk

refilling of mine void with

  • verburden;
  • Requires further shaping and

cover with clay and top-soil;
