  • GVRD Board direction:

– direct staff to undertake a preliminary review of the Kinder Morgan Canada Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project and report back on potential risk to marine life and air quality, impact on Metro Vancouver assets, including parks and infrastructure, and impact on local economy in the region resulting from increased tanker traffic in Burrard Inlet and expansion of the new pipeline right of way.

SLIDE 40

Sustainability Innovation Funds: Origins

Oct 29, 2004 Board approved creation of 4 Sustainability Innovation Funds: one for GVRD, Liquid Waste, Solid Waste and Water 2005 Amount of additional GST rebate deposited into each Fund 2006 thru today Contributions equal to 2005 rebate made annually The 4 Funds are part of Metro Vancouver reserves.

Sustainability Innovation Funds: Balances

slide-42
SLIDE 42

Sustainability Innovation Funds: Policies adopted in 2014

  • Fund Purpose: to be used to support projects that will contribute to

the region’s sustainability

  • Project Eligibility:

– restricted to Metro Vancouver operations and functions (GVRD Fund encourages involvement of member municipalities) – not for “business as usual” projects

  • Procedures: established for fund management, project evaluation,

decision‐making and reporting on impacts

  • Annual Contributions: will continue

.

slide-43
SLIDE 43

GVRD Sustainability Innovation Fund

  • Project eligibility

– Must be lead by GVRD function and consistent with GVRD portfolio of responsibilities: air quality management, regional parks, regional planning and housing policy, as well as initiatives in the areas of ecological health, climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation.

  • Awards

– $600,000 in awards annually – $100,000 annual limit per project

  • Themes for 2015/2016

– Decreasing regional greenhouse gas emissions – Increasing awareness of nature and natural systems.
