TIMELINE • January 3, 2019- Scheduling Presentation to Rising 9th Grade Students at Churchill • January 4-25, 2019- Online scheduling open via Parent Access to students/parents. • March 15, 2019 - all signed course selection forms due to the Counseling Office • May 31, 2019- Last day for elective changes for 2018/2019 school year Counselor’s will be meeting with students individually to finalize the course request process.

  3. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS • 4 years English • 3 years Math • 3 years History • 3 years Lab Science • 2 years World Language • 4 years Health and PE • Financial Literacy • 15 credits Fine/Performing Arts and Practical ** Each student must earn 140 credits to graduate.

  4. REQUIRED 9 TH GRADE COURSES NOT TAUGHT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL * HEALTH 9 * ENGLISH 9 NOTE: Students who fail the above courses must take them in Summer School before graduating. East Brunswick does not offer Summer School. Students will have to pay out of pocket to take summer school classes.

  5. Community Service ● Not mandatory but recommended by East Brunswick Schools. ● Printed directly on your college transcript if you do 15 hours or more per year. REQUIREMENTS: ● Complete packet for pre-approval except Youth Council (community rec program) ● Minimum of 15 or more hours ● Can begin over the summer but must have approval Packet available online or see the counseling office for more information

TYPICAL SCHEDULE FOR 9 TH GRADE • English 9 5 credits • Math 5 credits • US History I 5 credits • Biology (H) 6 or (7) credits • Physical Education 4 or (3) credits • World Language 5 credits • Health 2.5 credits • Semester/Full Year Electives 2.5 or 5 credits * ○ Full year elective examples include Band/Orchestra and Chorus 40 total credits

  7. LEVEL PLACEMENT Placement in honors level classes is determined by the subject area department chair/supervisor based on a number of variables as per a matrix score.

  10. Reference Sheet 1. Complete this sheet. 2. Label 1-8 in order of first to eighth choice. 3. Log onto Parent Access to complete online scheduling. This is to help you complete the online scheduling smoothly.

  15. In Parent Access, go to the scheduling screen and click on requests.

  16. Click on request a course in any of the categories. All academic categories must be completed and 8 electives must be chosen and prioritized with a number

  17. You must choose 8 electives from any elective area and must prioritize your requests by putting a number from 1 (highest priority) to 8 (lowest priority) in the additional information box. Once you choose a course and priority level click request this course. You must choose one course at a time, click ok, and then go back into requests to choose the next course. USE THE REFERENCE SHEET

  18. The requested courses show up on the main page along with the priority level.

  19. To delete a request, click on the garbage can to the right and then click OK.

  20. Your remaining requests will still be on the screen along with their priority levels.

  21. For World Language, please pick your top 3 requests and prioritize them. We highly recommend staying with your original language.

  22. Any information about choosing courses is listed above the requests page.

  23. * MUST request a minimum of 8 (Full Year/Semester) Electives * BEFORE SUBMITTING

  24. Please be aware that if you do not complete your selections they will automatically save until your next visit to the site. You should only click the submit button once you have chosen all of your courses as you will be locked out of further selections. When you are completely done click submit and type SUBMIT (all caps) in the top box.

  25. Next make sure you are still logged into Parent Access, go to the scheduling page, scheduling tab and click on the PDF file icon next to 2017-2018. This will bring up the course verification page so you can review your requests.

  26. Please print and bring copy, SIGNED BY A PARENT , of your verification sheet to the counseling office by March 2, 2018. You can also download and save a copy to your computer. If changes need to be made please do so in pen and follow the above directions .

  27. WAIVER FORMS ❑ A waiver/contract must be used for any scheduling variations such as: ❑ You do not meet the pre/co-requisites ❑ You want to double up on two courses ❑ You would like to take a Summer Advancement course ❑ Speak to your Churchill Counselor directly ❑ Waivers will have a deadline in approximately early spring.

  28. SUMMER ADVANCEMENT ❑ Students may take Geometry over the summer to advance to Algebra II honors for 9th grade ❑ Students must receive a solid B in the summer course and an 80 or above on the geo honors final in order to advance

  29. CURRENT GEO H STUDENTS ❑ Students must receive a final grade of an 80 or above in order to take Algebra II honors in 9th grade ❑ There is NO academic Algebra II course offered at CJHS
