CSDA 2020-21 Reopening

Verified space for class sizes of 10-12

PK-3 in elementary buildings, 4-5 at O’Neal, Myers and Clement

  • (ASH, Giffen, TOAST and possibly Montessori will be able to keep PK-5 in their building)
  • This increases transportation needs

Verified staffing for class sizes of 10-12

Core, Encore, Reading, ENL, Speech and Teaching Assistants (supervision) Instructional Coaches, Social Workers, School Psychologist, Behavior Specialists, Hall Monitors may also be needed for supervision, in addition to 30+ secondary staff (hall monitors and TAs)

Determined our recommendation for the structure of the day

  • Classes will be split in half
  • SPED self-contained and PK classes will remain whole due to size and staff
  • Classroom teacher will provide a half-day of instruction to each group
  • A supervising adult will provide the supervision/instruction for the other half of the day
  • Encore teachers will rotate through classes to provide half-day planning coverage for

teachers

  • Reading, ENL and Speech teachers will be assigned supervision rotations that allow them

to provide required services to a different grade level each week

Planning Committee: Elementary School

CSDA 2020-21 Reopening

  • Flipped classroom - Prioritizing what instruction has to occur with the classroom teacher
  • vs. the supervising adult.
  • Information and background knowledge vs. application and feedback and not relegated to

specific content areas

  • Google Classroom and Nearpod will remain the primary resource for virtual learning and

will be active year-round to support in person instruction (temporary and long-term closure).

  • Teachers may be assigned virtual responsibilities for students who are unable to return to

school

  • Instructional Coaches support virtual instruction and planning day
  • Staggered arrival and dismissal will be needed to cover daily prep for teachers and

student screenings

Blended learning model consideration

  • Hackett and North Albany will be used to rotate students for on-site instruction
  • North Albany will support students from O’Neal AIC, North Albany, Giffen (6th)

and TOAST (6th)

  • Hackett will support students from Hackett, Myers, ASH (6th) and Eagle Point (6th)

We assessed Hackett, Myers and North Albany to determine the number of students we could accommodate in each classroom while following CDC guidelines of 6 feet social distancing between desks.

Possible rotation schedule for on-site learning

  • Self-contained special education students attend every day
  • General education students in grades 6-8 attend two days (M-W or T-Th)
  • Co-taught/resource room, English-language learners, Tier 3 students for math

and reading attend three days (Friday)

  • Also use Friday for related services (if needed)
  • Exploring the possibility of Friday for instrumental music lessons

Planning Committee: Middle School

CSDA 2020-21 Reopening

On-site learning schedule sample considerations include:

  • 40-minute periods. This includes an SEL period each day for all students, two

periods for Encores both days, and core classes (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies and World Language for grades 7-8, and Math and English enrichment for grade 6)

  • 50-minute periods
  • 90-minute block schedule

One way in/one way out for students determined at Hackett and North Albany to ensure students do not cross paths (grade levels will be assigned to floors) Shortened student day to allow for contractual obligations such as CPT and planning time; doesn’t reduce instructional time for students

Exploring a continuum of options w/ flexibility

  • Small cohorts of 12-15 students (based on social distancing guidance)
  • Distance learning model
  • Prioritize on-site teaching
  • Hands-on courses/CTE (on-site labs)
  • Exploring a wrap-around campus model
  • Adjusted schedule, approximately 3-4 hours on campus each week
  • Students would be in the same core courses
  • Advisory periods created for all students
  • Opportunity for specialty lessons (if applicable)
  • Tutoring
  • Social-emotional support
  • Grades 9-10 based like core courses
  • Grades 11-12 based on specialty courses (CTE, IB, Engineering, etc.)

CSDA 2020-21 Reopening Planning Committee: Transportation

First Student (elementary and special needs)

  • Large bus -- 11 students (one student every other seat)
  • This takes into account 1 adult to do temperature checks/screening
  • Siblings would be allowed to sit together, which could increase capacity slightly
  • Regular capacity -- 48-71 students
  • Small bus -- 4 students plus 1 bus aid
  • If there is an additional adult to do temperature checks, student capacity would be

reduced to 3

  • Regular capacity -- 30 students
  • Wheelchair bus -- 1 student
  • Regular capacity -- 2-3 students

CDTA (secondary)

  • Tripper bus -- 15-20 students
  • Regular capacity -- 60+
  • Regular bus -- 10-15 total passengers
  • Regular capacity -- 60+

CSDA 2020-21 Reopening Planning Committee: Maintenance and Operations

Equipment/Supplies

  • Faculty/staff screening app/door device (exploring this option)
  • Touchless thermometers
  • Plastic face shields, disposable masks
  • Disposable gloves
  • Polycarbonate panels
  • Hand sanitizer, etc.
  • Additional misters to provide one in each school
  • PortaScrub machines for each building
  • Automatic small floor machines for use in classrooms, etc.
  • Additional bathroom disinfecting machines that deep clean and disinfect

Next steps

  • Updated Maintenance and Operations procedural manual to reflect the new cleaning
