  2. Our sc school Pioneer Village School Armadale is located in the Perth hills, resembling an 1800 ’s pioneer town. It has 163 students from kindy to year 6. Students from Pre-primary to year 6 took part in the Western Power circuit breakers program. Our junior primary students were introduced to coding through colour. They coded ozobots to conduct a variety of activities. Whilst our upper primary students (year 3- 6) used block coding to code the Micro:bits provided by Western Power.

  3. Wh What we learnt about Wester ern Power er We learnt about Insulators and conductors To stay 8m from fallen power lines and if we saw a fallen power line to call 13 13 51 We learnt that handling power can be difficult and dangerous. How to generate and transport power. Potential power sources of the future.

  4. Wh What we learnt about engin inee eerin ing Our students learnt about the different STEM professionals working for Western Power. There are electrical, computer and mechanical engineers, programmers, designers and many other interesting professions in the STEM field. We discovered how computer engineers need to develop and code the network to raise alarms when there are problems with the network so service technicians can fix the line to make sure people don’t get hurt.

  5. Our network of the future Our network is based on micro-grids, we have representations of solar, wind, hydro and geothermal power. We used micro-grids because these have been successfully used in remote parts of India where small towns can trade and purchase power within their villages keeping the money within their community. We also aim for a greener future. Instead of having power lines, we have made trees of copper (conductors) and paper (insulators) . This allows us to make the power lines look like it’s part of the environment.

  6. Copper trees Our net etwork to conduct power. Geothermal power station Waterwheel Pre-primary to representing year 3 used Hydro power colour coding on the roads to code ozobots. Solar power 3D printed wind Traffic lights turbines and street representing lamps wind power

  7. Our 5 5 favo vourit ite e thin ings about Circu cuit Breaker ers We all loved learning about circuits using the ‘giggle stick’ It was great to see all the equipment Mike brought in to show us – insulators, conductors, transformers, how thick the wire is, his suit – it was great fun dressing up. Seeing the elevated work platform put up the nesting boxes we made in term 2. We loved coding the ozobots and Micro:bits. Making our network Thank you Western Power!
