Placement Attendance Placement Attendance

  • 20 full days of placement
  • Completed Monday to Friday or 3 days per

week (specific days decided by the placement site)

  • Daily placement attendance: minimum of 6

hours excluding breaks

  • Reviews assignments, lesson plans, and evaluations as per course outline
  • Facilitates online seminars and discussions
  • Schedules progress meetings with placement site and student by phone, email, Skype, etc.

The professional mentoring students at the field education site

  • Completes mid term and final evaluations
  • Reviews curriculum plans and written documentation specific to placement site
  • Reviews and discusses student progress with student and faculty advisor
  • Maintains communication with Ryerson Faculty Advisor via phone, email, Skype, etc.

Manages the field education component of the School

  • Approves the Distance Option Proposal
  • Registers students for field education course

How to obtain a distance placement How to obtain a distance placement

— Contact Field Education Coordinator (FEC) martha.anapliotis@ryerson.ca

prior to date of the Information Session , as per the field education schedule for the semester you wish to take a distance placement

— FEC will set up a time to meet by phone to discuss placement process — Review the field education schedule for placement start and end dates — Determine when you plan to attend placement ( 3 days per week or M-F) — Research potential placement sites in your area — Contact sites to request placement using Ryerson email address — Submit the CCLD363 Distance Option Proposal to the FEC by the

required due date

Contacting Sites Contacting Sites

— The placement is arranged by the student — Contact sites using Ryerson email address

– Start early! – Sites may receive numerous requests for student placements – Contact more than one site at a time

– i.e. if interested in child care, email several centres – Follow up with sites if you have not received a response to initial email request – Be able to articulate why you are seeking placement at a particular site and what you hope to gain from the experience

— When site expresses an interest in hosting the

placement:

— Send site CCLD363 course outline — Send site CCLD363 sample evaluation — At the request of the placement site, FEC will

contact site to clarify placement and expectations

— When site has confirmed the placement, complete

and submit the CCLD363 Distance Option Proposal by the appropriate due date

— Students will be informed by email when proposal

has been approved

Conflict of Interest Policy Conflict of Interest Policy

— Students cannot complete placements

with sites where:

  • They have completed a previous field

education courses (college or university)

  • Their friends or family members previously or

currently attend or are employed

  • They previously or currently work or

volunteer

  • Students found contravening the Conflict of

Interest Policy will be immediately withdrawn from the placement.

Non-Academic Documentation Non-Academic Documentation

— Students completing placements in the province of Ontario

must electronically submit proof of the following non- academic documentation:

  • Certificate of Standard First Aid with

CPR Level C

  • Clear TB Screen-completed within 6 months of placement

start date

  • Criminal Reference Check with a vulnerable sector

search-completed within 6 months of placement start date

  • Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training
  • The chosen placement site may require additional

documentation
